In my desperation for work I accepted a job that requires going to SLC UT on Thurs (for a day).
There is a large possibility that going one way or the other I will prolly need to stop in the middle of Your great state. any suggestions for a more interesting than not spot?

Thanks,
ken

Are you talking about a motel/hotel type thing? The casinos are usually a good deal. Depending on where you end up, Winnemucca, Elko and even Wendover have "decent" places for a simple overnighter. Winnemucca and Elko have some great Basque restuarants, plus most of the usual type stuff.

Have a save trip.

Yes , I will be needing a hotel along that stretch and wasn't sure if there was a place to avoid or seek out.

Thanks,

Wish I could help. We usually make the whole Reno/SLC trip in one day.

Couldn't you fly cheaper? I'm going to LV next week and the air fares were so good I couldn't justify driving.

Ken,
There are good motels in Winnemucca. One thing to know however: Many allow pets/dogs due to the popularity during hunting season. So IIWY I would ask specifically for a motel that does not allow pets. I'm not fond of staying at casino motel/hotels due to the cig smoke thing...otherwise they're OK too.

And there are great restaurants too in W. The Red Lion has the best breakfast deal anywhere: $3.99 ham steak special (have to ask for it as it is not on the menu) which includes dos eggs, hash browns and a great slab of very good ham!

The Griddle is a great breakfast/lunch spot too.

Las Margarita's (Jose the owner is a great guy) and Los Amigos (in the Holiday Inn Express) are the best mex in W. Ormachea's is my favorite Basque in town...although the Martin is good too.

A great little espresso place: Delizioso Espresso is tops. Although I have not eaten at the Flying Pig I hear from good friends the BBQ is NOT very good there...

And last but not least there is a Chinese restaurant right next to the Raley's that features awesome wor wonton soup!

You probably already know this: Winnemucca is 2.5 hours from Reno; Elko is 4.5 hours from Reno via I-80.

Wendover also has decent lodging (maybe even more so than Elko) but at that point I would think you'd just push on to SLC.

If you are in SLC and want a great meal at a very affordable price: Sandy & I, when we were travelling a couple weeks ago, found a great Lebanese/Moroccan restaurant in downtown SLC called the Cedars of Lebanon: Try it!!!
