How did you know I was out there with the PW today ??? :princess: stated her wagon was too damn dirty to be seen in....so I say WTF, do one do all. It was supposed to be 38 today...but by the frozen water forming on all panels and me alomost planting my ass on every step due to major ice flow formation on the driveway.....I'm no doctor but no way in hell was it 38 out there. Well at least :princess: did my post dinner obligations. :flipoff2:

Okay, I know this is old, but I need some info on the Yakimas. I'm pretty sure I want a Yakima, because I don't want much weight up there, and don't have the tools to custom build one. The most I will be carrying up there at one time is a canoe and a bike or just two canoes. So the Question IS, how many Yakima crossbars to go with. I think I've seen 4 on Razor's rig, But do I really need that many? Thanks in advance

I have two bars on mine one in back and one in front, I just bolted my roofrack straight up to it and I haven't had any problems at all. But I haven't had as much weight as it sounds like your gona have yet so I would say go with three to be safe.

You're talking about Yakima Cross Bars, Right? Also, are you using the Yakima gutter mounts? One more thing...How much does your roof rack weight that you put on the bars?

Thanks

Here's another source:

I know we're supposed to "keep it in the community" and these are listed for more $$$, but the fact that SOR sells the 4" clamps for more $$$ than the 6" clamps pisses me off, plus SOR's shipping and handling charges are berserk and probably would make ordering from them more expensive. :)

I may be losing it, but I couldn't find 4" clamps at Altrec. I've already got aluminum crossbars ready to go, would love to get a rack on the 60 for surfboards... the confer I've already got is too much rack for just a couple of boards.
Dont' want to steal the brackets either as getting them on and off is a PITA and invariably thrashes the gutters.

:whoops:

Yeah, only 6" clamps there. Maybe that's why SOR's 4" ones are cheaper = special order?

I just got an email from the friendly folks at NRS (they distribute the QuickNEasy). They can do the 4" supports. Call them Ponies. I'm not clear on pricing yet, but first estimate was $85 for four. What was unclear is if that is 4 yokes, or 4 yokes plus clips. I should find out more shortly.
If there is interest, maybe a group buy would lower the price? Seems to me that the SOR price is probably better, but you never know with their mystery shipping and handling charges.

Their price is $85 for 4 yokes and clips. 4" tall.
That's $15 more than SOR. But of course, SOR will definately charge at least $5 for handling, plus whatever crazy shipping they add in...

I have the Quick and Easy brackets on a VW Syncro Van with a home made basket. 4 load bars and 8 total brackets. I am 300 lbs and I use the rack constantly to stand in, sleep in, I have had me and my wife up there watching meteor showers many times. They are strong, cheap, and very easy to use. I adapted them to some tule load bars that have the plastic coating which I found used cheap in the local classifieds. Then strapped the basket to them. I actually found 4 of my brackets on ebay for 15 bucks for 4. Painted them up black to match and they are good to go.

i also use quick n easy clamps and they are great...

After reading through several threads and googling roof rack hardware, finally found what I was looking for at NRS. Thanks MUD!
Turns out I've got some old Quick N Easy clamps but I'm missing the cam lever hardware. NRS sells just the lever clips and now I'm back in business.
