Where to find front turn signal rubber gaskets / grommets

I am pretty sure USA ‘78 models never had them, even when new.

I am interested in a set of the pedestal gaskets.

Since posting those original pics, I have printed several for members. Everyone seems to be happy with the end result and it is exciting for me to see my parts on other Cruisers. There is a lot of variety in the light bases, here is another designs i created for a member that had the lights with metal bases (sold by Classic Cruisers and ??).

I am doing a Gozzard transplant on to a 82' FJ40. To get the fit, finish, and finer details the way I wanted I took a detour and got into 3d printing. Here is my solution to the same problem. It is printed out of flexible TPU (not as soft as rubber but it has similar characteristics). If there was interest from the group I could probably recreate more.

Mine arrived and fits my 81 perfectly...although I had to cut one end to avoid cutting and re-soldering all the wires in the lamps. These are great, wish I found them sooner. Thanks Ryan!

Aren't there bullet connectors just inside the engine compartment for the turn signals?

Honestly, I could use three pairs of these base gaskets. Where do I order?

maybe...but it unless it will fit thru the post it doesnt matter.

Yeah, the wires come through the post and they're terminated with bullet connectors just inside the fender. I don't know about an 81, but that's the way they are on 76s and 78s.

Greg,

I am glad you like them, thanks for posting the picture.......definitely no cutting needed. My 82' has the bullet connectors as previously mentioned by spotcruiser.

There appears to be small variances in the size of different offerings, I would need to know what year your vehicle is and the following:

Are your lights:
1) new Toyota OEM lights (plastic bases)?
2) original OEM lights that came with your FJ40, ____ years old (plastic basis)?
3) poor quality Chinese made replica lights (sold by SOR with light colored plastic bases)?
4) TEQ lights sold by CityRacer
5) the metal base versions sold by Classic Cruisers and ???

I charge $18.50 which also covers shipping anywhere in the contiguous united states. I ship outside of the country but would need to get you a separate shipping quote. I need an email address and your mailing address after which I can send you a PayPal request. I am excited to see my prints on other FJ40s. When they are installed I also ask that you send me a picture.

I have been asked by members to build other parts.... so stay tuned, when I get time there will be more to come.

My 82 also has bullet connectors.

Do you have to remove the coolant overflow/windshield washer tanks to get to it? My cable runs under the tanks.

My cruiser is up north, however, as I recall there is a hole in the inner fender skirt that the wires go through and you can pull the wires out enough to disconnect the bullet connectors from outside of the vehicle. Mine may have been wrapped in electrical tape.... I can really remember.

These are photos of my 78. I would assume 79+ are pretty much the same. The 76s are a little different in that the wires come up a little farther back and onto the flats inside the fender skirts.

DS below the headlight bucket.

PS looking down between the overflow bottle and headlight. Not easy to see, but the wires pass through the grommet below that harness. The bullet connectors are right there below the harness.

I bought a pair of gaskets from 82FJ40EVV and they fit like a glove. Nice job and material is softer than I had expected. I was worried the 3d printed material would be stiff. So I was quite stoked when they arrive and were what I needed and high quality.

The wires on my '78 pass through the fender and connect in the engine compartment as indicated in the pics above. I extended my ground wire and grounded the lights in the engine compartment as well, just to get everything in one place.

I bought a replacement grommet set from the local hardware store $.99 for a package of 3 in the automotive section.

Do you still have any of the turn signal grommets?

Wondering why you need it. OEM doesn't have it. It's just another piece of rubber to go bad.
Need? Sometimes we just want things.
And Thank you Racer for providing us with things we just want. $16 for the pair and with the quality of work you do I am sure the fitment will be as great. (Picture stolen from City Racer's site.)
