where did you mount the base unit for remote head HAM radio?

Nicely done 87Warrior. My factory amp is still in place although I'm not sure if it is being used. I have an aftermarket stereo that was installed by the previous owner. I wonder if there is a good way to determine if it is still being used. I suppose I could just unplug it and see if the stereo still works.
I removed the factory amp because I have an aftermarket radio 🆒 There is a lot of discussion about doing this on the forum. I highly recommend it for the improvement in sound quality alone. The available space for a ham radio body mounting is just a bonus.

Thanks, I will add that to the list of things to look into. I think I have other options for the HAM unit so might look into it later on.

I managed to shoehorn two mobile radios and power distribution in and behind the PS cargo area panel. Tight but can be done. A Yeasu FT-8800 base mounted to the body just forward of the long cubby, a Yeasu FT-1500M mounted inside the first-aid kit cubby and power distribution mounted inside the front half of the long cubby. I did have all of this stuff mounted to the side of the drawers, but I wanted flexibility to run without drawers.
A couple people have mentioned the PS cargo area. I took a closer look at that the other day and that is looking more promising. I don't have anything in the long storage cubby currently. I stuck the unit in that top pocket and it fits pretty nicely. Good option for ventilation and not hard to add hole if more vents are needed. I didn't pull the panel off to see the area behind it, but it sounds like that is an option too. I have drawers, but I want the option to run without them too (picking up a set of 3 row seats for that reason today actually). That location would also keep the center console available for convenient storage of stuff. A little more routing for power, faceplate and mic cables, but that is doable.

I'm glad I asked the question. Very viable options including a number that I had not considered.

Identified options:
  1. Inside center console (CD changer console vs non-CD changer console might make a difference)
  2. Under the dash right above the dead pedal
  3. Attached to a drawer system
  4. Attached to a piece of plywood on the passenger floor
  5. under passenger seat - assuming no factory AMP
  6. Passenger side cargo area behind side panel
  7. Passenger side cargo area inside first aid kit cubby (if it will fit)
  8. Passenger side cargo area inside of long cubby
  9. attached to the side of the transmission tunnel, passenger side, down in the carpeted area.

Thank you to all who gave feedback. Way more options than I had discovered on my own.

Not sure which years it applies to but under the PS seat on my 2003 is the navigation DVD player. This is separate from the DVD changer in the center console. Not sure when the factory amp went away and the DVD player was added.

I mounted my IC-208h in the rear cargo area and ran the faceplate wire, speaker wire and CAT5/6 for the mic up to the front.
I'm attempting to do this now. On the driver's side, the subwoofer takes up a lot of room. I removed the bracket for the jack and the radio body will fit in there. I think the cargo area has the possibility for the cleanest install, so for anyone who has done that - would you mind sharing a description or pictures of how you mounted the radio body?
