I have one of the lever locks in a wrecker and it works great.

Thanks good read. I like the lever lock though I'd rather use the single lock and use one of the factory choke or throttle cables not being used to activate it. I need to find what the prices are that could help my decision, the Summit lock has a good price point. The mesco locks look to be industrial grade which will be a higher quality but usually comes with the quality price.

You can get ones on EBAY by Lokar for like 45/ea and they come with fittings. I have 2 of them :D

Thanks I'm trying to stay away from bringing the valve in dash or cab. Cable would be fine as I'd use one on the dash.

Thanks Plowboy. And while your reading Downeys info, also read Downeys Warning. Also check out the plumbing kit info, saves the metric-to-SAE hassles.

Thank I like the swagelocks described, as for the valve same as above. I think he meant this link http://www.downeyoff-road.com/ChassisComponents/DiscBrakes.html

Thanks I'll check it out.

I have an AFCO line lock on the front brakes, works really well for holding and nice for digging around tight obstacles. Previous owner installed so I don't know much about it other than I like it a lot. :)

i just finished installing line lock for my fj40...i used poly performance jamar unit installed next to light switch l/h dash..had to make angle and attached it behind dash pad...since the toy is metric and valve sae..i bought 60" brake line cut in half..inst on valve and threaded through firewall upper l/h elec pass thru ..since the front brakes are disc.decide not to hook up to rear ...got 2 compression unions..straight cut line..bleed sys and thrilled with... lock em and love the idea of fj not slipping into lake with pwc...let me know if i can gives more help...sierra - - - clarke

Thanks I'm gonna look it up, sounds like a mechanical unit. I'd like to see a couple pics if you have them. :)

Well I wanted to update this for those that come behind me I had to dig good and didn't find everything I was looking for and the ones I did find that installed their line-locks were nothing like mine. I decided to go with the mechanical unit because the electric started to sound less desireable as for any power issues or wiring issues no lock. I ordered the Jamar unit http://jamarperformance.com/TheRealm/shop_detail.asp?product_catID=Brake+Accs.&product_id=147 like mentioned above. Bought some 3/16 SAE 2 6FT joints, 2 T's, 2 plugs and few spare flare fittings. I just reused the 1 metric flare fitting on the master-cylinder. The front line off the master cylinder runs along side the other line going to the rear up around the firewall to the pass side of the frame. Since I only wanted to use the lock on the front brakes I only tied into the front line. I used T's in the case the lock would fail I can move the plugs and insert a peice of tubing I'll keep in the glove box that will go T to T and normal up the brakes disconnecting the line-lock out of the system. I have two standard benders not great for the tight bends I wanted to make but in all it came out ok could have been done a little neater. The unit worked terrific as a day after I installed it we headed to the Southern Cruiser Crawl and tested it there. I have a half @ss working E-Brake because the seal is leaking inside the E-brake drum and I wanted the extra insurance of the line-lock. I'm very pleased by the end of the trip I was very glad I went that route. Easy on push to lock, then push the brake to release. I had to drill out the holes on the lock very carefully to fit the bolt used for the steering column on the other side I took an L bracket and cut it fit so it grabs the top of the steering column bracket and uses a lock washer and nut on the top. I'm absoutley against drilling holes in this particular cruiser so I go out of my way to uses holes for things already there. Here are some pics. I hope it helps the next guy looking to do this project.
