When is the Buena Vista Weekend

I wasn't thinking when I told you too look on the website. Thought you could still see it from the IH8mud area.

I am about 85% sure we scheduled that for the July 24,25 weekend. I know I wouldn't have put in on the July 4th weekend, because I figured most people will be with family. I will look around and see if I can find my notes.

So I have a question.

My wifes brother is planning on coming out from MN sometime in July. He has a stock, stock, stock Nissan Xterra with what I can imagine are car tires and low hanging running boards. If I tell him to come out over the Buena Vista Weekend, is there a trail that would be appropriate, or would that be a bad idea?

BV area...

Mark, r.e. your brother-in-law with the stocker, while there are trails that won't be a good idea, i.e., Chinaman, there are many more places to go. The road up to St. Elmo is a passenger car road, and there are usually a shop or 2 open in the summer time, as well as into Cottonwood Lake and up Cottonwood pass which the east side is paved - all good roads. You'll be able to find a lot of places to go. 25 miles N. of BV, is Twin Lakes, and just S of there is Phantom Canyon, which is 2WD road. Lots of places to go and see. Have fun with your family!

Thanks for the input Darrell. I'm wondering if I should invite him along to ride with the club on the BV weekend. If no one wants to do the bunny trails then I'm not going to invite him. the question was more along the lines of is it appropriate to invite him to ride along with the club. He has absolutely no experience wheeling either.

I think you should invite him. I will have a couple of open seats if they want go on a harder trail.

Icecream break in St Elmo should not be missed.

The ice cream break in St. Elmo is going to become a yearly tradition......I say bring them too. If nothing else, the wife will be with me and she always appreciates the easier trails. Maybe one of the days we can run Tin cup pass, I didn't see anything overly hard on that trail. Can't wait!!!

Can I get some more info on the weekend? Is the campsite someplace I can drag a pop-up to? What kind of facilities are out there? Is it primitive? Is there a stream/pond? Will folks get out there Friday evening & head home Sunday?

I'm hoping to make a family outing out of it.

We camp in the Browns creek area just south of Buena Vista off of 285. Take 285 South out of Buena Vista until you go under a large pipeline over the road. If you go under two pipelines, or see a gas station on the right, you've gone too far. Take a right after the first pipeline on CR270, stay straight on that until it turns into CR272 and runs into Browns creek. This is a great staging area for the trip to into the mountains on 162. 162 takes you to Iron city, St. Elmo and all the better trails on the area.

The campground itself is primitive, but very nice. You can get a pop up in no problem, but there are no facilities and no streams or rivers. Unfortunately it's pretty open too, with lots of large pine trees, makes it hard for the women to find a place to hide. We have a potty in our pop up or my wife most likely wouldn't attend.

I will be heading out Friday night, and will have to leave Saturday afternoon in order to make the Pure Prarie League concert at Trout Haven Saturday night--that just HAD to be scheduled for the same weekend. If you want to tag along let me know.

Is there a meeting place if we are heading out on saturday morning?

Is there a meeting place if we are heading out on saturday morning?

Hello? Anybody on this trail?s

So what is up?

Who is camping?...who is not? Where do we meet for a trail ride?

Is this even an event or what?

It is an event. I would normally be the one jumping up and down making arrangements, I just got caught up and an only stay Friday night and Saturday until early afternoon. We don't have a trail leader, and I don't know if anyone has been on this trip to take the lead. I would say anyone who wants to leave Saturday morning should meet at the West meeting location (Western gas station, Woodland Park) at 6:30 A.M. leave at 7:00 A.M. (sharp!). That would put you in the camp at about 9 to 9:30.

If anyone is going out Friday night with me, I will probably leave Woodland Park around 6:00 P.M. I will be happy to lead the first run Saturday morning. I figure if anyone else is there, we can talk about where to go while the other rigs are headed up. Where we will go will be based on the rigs present. I will not be heading up Iron Chest mine in my red truck no matter how bad the body is, it just doesn't need any more abuse.

I really would like to know who else is planning to attend.

I have to work friday night and have a family wedding in denver on saturday so I have to sit this one out again. I'm about 97.4% sure i'll be starting a new job in August that is Mon-Fri, and pays a lot more than REI (:flipoff2:) so then I wont have any more stupid schedule conflicts. (plus the :princess: said she'd let me buy sliders and a lift withg the extra )

Howdy all!

Dustin and I will be leaving the Western at 7:00 am on saturday and heading straight to Chinamans. He has some new rock sliders and wants to test his welds!:D I was hoping to give my new suspension a workout on carnage canyon, but my car died so i cant risk breaking the beast.:crybaby: Anyway, we will see you guys at thr trailhead.
