Ok, it is snowing like a bitch up in CT right now and the roads are slippery...wicked slippery.

My 98 100 has a Center Diff lock and a Rear locker...I was thinking it might be a good idea to use the CDL due to how slippery it was.

Does it even make sense to use during snowy conditions? I know the RL shouldnt be used, but what about the center....

or better yet

When is the proper time to use the CDL or the RL or Both???

Here's one of many threads I found by searching ;) regarding CDL:

I have a 98 as well and I always use center diff lock when it is really bad out.

Basically whenever there is snow on the ground you can use it. When its wet and slushy awd is good enough.
You just want to make sure the ground is slipery when center diff is on so the wheels have some give when turning.

Its like night and day for me with the center locked. Goes like a tank.

I've never had to use my rear locker - it is only made for 1st or 2nd gear - perhaps in 4 low only - can't remember - but it says in your users manual.
I do lock mine every now and then to keep it greased up though.

I thought you just stayed indoors until it melted.

couple weeks ago, i was on the interstate and there was probably 1-1 1/2 in. of packed snow on it. I was driving from dekalb to oak brook, il. cars and other suvs were averaging about 10-25 mph, I was just so amazed how consistent my 100 was at about 50-60 mph in a 65 speed limit. traffic at times almost seemed to be at a stand still. I didn't engage CDL. I was just amazed.

i do the same in my 100.....of course i also did the same in my Subaru....

the issue with the 100's slipping isnt the traction it is the shifting of weight around turns....the 100 is heavy. Of course when i feel it slip i just gun it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I always use mine when the parkways/highways, get slushed up, or snow packed. i find i can cruise at like 20-25mph faster with total control. then on the back roads by my house in vt, if i feel like pushing it i always engage the cdl, if im justh putzsing around i leave it in full time 4wd. and let the trac handle it.

the biggest thing for me is when doing 70+ on the highway, i hate when the trac kicks in. i much preffer to pull/power the car with the cdl locked.

I have put about 300K pluss miles driving to and from long island driving. and this is my second 100.

always lock with high speeds and snow or slush. period.
