What's This Box Under Dash on 1996 lx450

Installing rocker switches and needs space behind the center console bezel for the wires. Does anyone know what this box is circled in yellow and can I remove it?

I'm not keeping stock stereo or alarm.

If not, any other tips on where people have installed rocket switches ( not Auxbeam style panel switch box)

You have Rockets!? 2.75" 7 shot clusters?
I want rockets. It would make my commute sooooo much better.

That face plate that is part of the shift cover has plenty of back space for rocker switches.
I have a Blue Sea power system in that location.

Rockets would be better!

That space is exactly where I want to put a 5 gang rocker switch panel from nilight. 2.7" deep with wires.
