to removing the entire windsheild wiper arms from my 1972 piggy...trying to remove the cowl piece with the vent in it....any help would be appreciated...thanks guys and gals

The pressure fit of the "splined nut" of the linkage to the opening of the arm itself is a tight one. A battery terminal puller might be the safest bet...or puller of some sort. I have resorted to other means, successfully - but these were parts pigs where potential damage to the linkage was not at the forefront. Once those splines are damged your SOL - remember to scribe some marks on your arm and linkage for proper re-installation. Hope it goes well;)
 
There's a small tab that keeps pressure on the female splined area of the wiper arm. Find a way to get under there w/ a small flat tool & depress while pulling up.
