Whats the purpose of the plug with the 2 wires coming from the distributer ?

Is its only purpose to be able to remove the distributer ?
I'm just curious b/c my wires aren't looking so good, and could make it look a lot better without the plug.

The wires are from the signal generator, and your truck may not run with out it. It tells the coil when to make spark.
