What's my 1-owner, 1980, 4x4 pickup worth?

I purchased this Toyota mini-truck new in 1980 at the Palo Alto, CA dealership. Has 213,716 actual miles. Engine/transmission rebuilt August 1999 at 206,941 - 6,775 miles on the rebuild - a real "part-time" driver for the last 8 years or so. New in 80, this was a basic, stripped-down 4-speed 4x4 which only came with an FM radio (long gone now) and an optional rear bumper. All glass is original. I still have the original rear bumper plus an after-market Smitty-built. The original Dunlop SnowCruiser spare is still mounted on the original spare rim. The steel rims are all original and in good shape. I’ve put lots of time and new Toyota OEM parts into the truck over the last few years.

My son drove it for a while and when he tired of it and moved on, I rebuilt the engine/transmission and turned it into my hobby/backup vehicle. Driven about 6,775 miles in the last 8 years, and never really 4-wheeled (ever). Only off-road has been picking up a Christmas tree every year with the kids. I just bought a new (1978) FJ40, which now takes up most of my free hobby time so I’m thinking of selling the pickup. Runs well and stops – bit of a howl from the original rear diff over 70 on the freeway. Any opinions on what dollar amount I should try to get for this would be appreciated. If it’s not worth anything I may just keep it to haul cruiser parts around.

See more detail and photos at the link below - I'll be putting up more detailed photos that show the good as well as the bad as soon as I get them together.

that good of shape $2500-3500

list it for sale in Washougal WA. seems like they are worth more there than anywhere.

I like your Snap-On ratchet. Hell I like the books too. you want to sell me the service manual? Wont really apply to me, since my 80 is basically been updated to '89's guts.
But cool any way. Id be interested in the factory ad too.

Prices on these trucks seem to be a a premium here in Wa, I've told my Father in law to bring his up here to sell it. He's in Hannaford, Ca. Would bring what he paid and pay for the trip, he'd get to visit the Grandkids for free.

So I honestly don't know what to tell you. Post it high and lower it with time, if you not in a hurry.

You'll probably regret selling though.

uh?...keeping?

snap-on tools i see lol very expensive

Just to give you and idea, right now I have an 80 and an 83 mini. I paid $450 for the 83, and traded a beat up Chevy for the 80. Both are similar in condition as yours.
I've seen quite a few minis for sale recently going for $300 up to $3300. The $3300 was a stocker and immaculate.

Am I the only one that thinks Toyota should do a "retro cool" and remake som...most of the vehicles it has from the past?

That is one bad a.., real nice truck. I think you should keep it, but just in case I win the lottery I got all your info so I can (and would) out-bid anyone else. You didn't tell us it was white!! :flipoff2:

You got me beat.

I have a 1988 22R 2wd 5 speed extra cab long bed with 156,000 miles. I bought it in 1989 when it was a year old. I call it my Home Depot Hauler.

The only thiing done to the engine in 19 years was to replace the front oil seal, and it has been so long ago I'm thinking I did that 15 or so years ago. Never even adjusted the valves. But I did change the spark plugs a few times. Still have the original floor matts.

I have the owners manual and shop manual like in your picture, but just a different year. I don't have the California booklet like in your picture.

It has sat on my driveway for almost 20 years. It starts. It runs. I have had to replace the battery about every 4 years.

Last year I started to fix it up. Replaced the original bumpers. Put in a SR5 cluster. I even waxed it, for the first time in 10 years.

I had a transmission bearing noise when in 5th for the past few years. I did not want to replace my W55 transmission with some unknown rebuilt. I did not want to go to Marlin. I foud a place in Santa Clara called MS Auto Gears that rebuilds Toyota transmissions. and about anything that moves He also restores older Toyota Land Cruisers. Manjit is the owner, with his son. He rebuilt the transmission for $300 plus $220 for the rebuild kit - all Japanese parts. It now drives like it did 19 years ago.

I might just keep it for another 19 years if I live that long.

If you keep it and want to fix the rear end noise then you should check out Manjit's shop.

im picking up a pretty clean '83 sr5 22r short bed 4x4 manana for 1800... i'm very pleased with the price, seeing how im pocketing 1200 from the sale of my 4runner with a 3.slow and getting a reliable solid axle equipped 'beater' truck

my neighbor picked one up in similar condition as yours, it's an A/C truck too and he got it for 700... prices are kinda all over the place on these so its very hard to tell. post a high price and wait for a craiglister to offer you less and you'll still come out ahead
