So here's the story, 16 years ago I meet a guy who has my dream truck. I told him that when he's ready to sell he needs to call me first. I run into him recently and I asked him if he still had my truck. He laughed and said "I'm ready to sell it now ". So here's what it is. It's a 1980 4X4 with 152k miles, 1 owner. This guy kept every record including the original bill of sale, the window sticker, and the trip permit to bring it home. He kept every maintenance record in the last 35 years for this vehicle. It has two very small rust areas in the bed behind the wheel well where carpet held moisture against the metal for too long he said. I asked him why he didn't give it to his son and he said because he doesn't deserve It, he doesn't even wash his own car enough. He told me this truck has had two coats of wax every year since it was new and zero accidents. He even has the original tan painted steel wheels with minimal rust spots
It needs a transfer case rear output shaft seal and rust spots fixed to be 100%. It runs amazing

Love the truck, a rare time capsule. If you buy it, don't chop it up into oblivion.

The value is what it's worth to you. For me because it's a one owner truck with meticulous records...that's gold. I would give him 10 grand say thanks for keeping it for me.

Thanks for your input, I definitely see the value in leaving this truck alone... Too many have been beat on including the 3 I had when I was younger and if I wanted one to "play" with, I would buy a $1k one to have fun with. This truck spent every night under a carport since new.

I love first gens. Still kicking myself for trading my 82 that my dad bought brand new. Especially considering the next owner beat the crap out of it. I would think this is worth 8-10k considering it's a 1 owner in the shape it's in. I would put some white spokes and 31's on it, ditch the cap, and maybe put in an 80's style rollbar with some KC lights on top. 80's style!

Any idea what he wants for it? I agree it's worth 8k to the right buyer but see if he would take 6 to 7 for it. Can't hurt to ask

489 beige, AM/FM mono radio, vent windows. 4 speed, no A/C No power steering. Too bad it does not have those options and the stock air cleaner is MIA. That could be an aftermarket carb as well.

Yeah that's a weber on there. I never ran one on any of my old trucks but a few friends did. And they were messing with them as much as I messed with the one on my old FJ40. I never had to touch a stock carb. Still a really nice truck though. And I could be wrong but didn't the 4 speed trucks have 3.90 gears to cope with not having 5th?

They had 4.38 gears in 79-80

Webers need a fuel pressure regulator to run properly.

4:38's must have been fun on the highway unless 4th was an overdrive. But I would think 4.38's would be nice with 31's and a 5 speed swap. If there's no return line webers need a regulator. On my 79 FJ40 I noticed zero difference with or without one. But it had a return line.

4TH was direct, it was a 20R after all (with 29 inch tires) and the national speed limit was 55MPH.

I had a one new (1980 RN47) and it could barely get out of it's own way until I put an Arkay turbocharger on it. After that I could even carry a 7 foot cab-over camper.
