Well then according to the data I posted, it is far from being a red herring
Depends. I looked back in my records for this week in 2019. I paid $3.85 gallon at my local station. I filled up last Sunday morning at the same station for $3.19. So anecdotally it tells me that your mileage (and price per gallon) may vary.

I miss the prices (but not the reason) when i filled up on 4/2/2020. I paid 0.899 at a gas station in Standish, MI. My next fill up was $1.119 in Cleveland, OH. Doubt we will ever see prices like that again.

Last I checked the automotive industry as a whole accounts for 60-70% of the inflation jump, so not exactly a reflection of the fundamental economy given the supply chain impacts driving it. Pandemic inflation is real, but I'm not seeing any data that indicates fundamental changes, aside from the housing market, which isn't part of inflation calculations.
So you don't buy gas? Prices in Colorado have doubled since January. I guess you don't buy food either. Checked the price for a pound of Bacon lately? Or Ribeye or pork? You think those prices are going down any time soon? I would like to see what data you are looking at because I am looking at my wallet, my gas bills, my food bills, etc.

I have seen it for gas but I don't eat a lot of beef or bacon so I have not seen much increase in my food bill. Not sure how this is 200 tech.

Your right about not seeing those prices again. For awhile at least anyway. Energy independence tends to lower gas prices and the opposite tends to increase them.

As far as the used car market goes, until the chip shortage comes to an end and new cars start being made in numbers again, it will stay that way.

Ya… :-0
It all started with people shocked over used 200 Series prices, etc.

This is what I paid January 20, 2021. No particular reason I took the picture on this day and expecting higher gas prices for any particular reason 🤨. I am betting gas prices will go even higher next summer and food costs will follow…obviously. The chip shortage isn’t going anywhere for sometime. 200 prices will continue demand higher prices until the LX600 comes which is being pushed back. The 300 series production isn’t doing well. I can’t imagine if they brought those to the U.S to begin with, what price those would be demanding but I’d easily say 30-40% over msrp. Damn! Missed out on a great flip opportunity. 🤪
