what wiper blades to use

I have been using the Bosch Ion blades for over a year now. They went through a winter and still work great. This is the best set of blades I have ever owned. I have never had the OEM's so I can't compare

I've had the most consistent results with OEM.

Regardless of which blade I use, I get about four months max before streaking.

I live and work in a harsh marine environment. The salt, sand and UV destroy wiper blades.

my blades suck, they dont quite fit the contour of the glass properly and streak so I ordered some new ones from c dan.

I agree that driving with sucky blades, well, sucks. But even out here in the desert, a decent blade will last for more than a year. Often times what causes a blade to streak is the oxidized material on the blade's wiping surface. Alcohol will remove this and give you a clean edge again. I too am quite picky when it comes to visibilty. But living in AZ, I think my windshield gets replaced more often than my wiper blades

I am running Valeo. It was the first thing I replaced as I hate worn out wiper blades and it seems like most people do indeed drive around with super worn out wipers on their vehicles.

They are expensive. They use a low profile design that doesn't get pushed around by the wind as much and hides the tensioning system internally (like a winter wiper) so no ice can decrease their performance. I have run them in the past on a brand new GMC company rig and was very impressed, no icing up or loss of performance with snow. I'll have a better idea come this winter in Utah how well they work on a FZJ80.

Worth checking out if you're into trying out all possible options.

I use the Michelin (frameless) blades. The rear works perfectly and the fronts do as well, except the passenger lower right corner the blade does lift off the windshield. I can get 8 months of streak free wiping and push a full year before streaking gets too annoying.

The frameless blades don't chatter in light rain at highway speeds and give you snow blade performance in the winter as they don't stop working in freezing rain or cold temps.

I, too, use the el cheapo stuff though change them once a year. Living in Florida with extreme climate kills the blades faster than you like.

Bought a Bosch "MicroEdge" today and it works great on the rear. There is a spring in the blade assembly that make the blade contour the glass PERFECTLY. Might try these up front next...

OEM Wiper Swap

OK, ran across this thread, read it all and decided to stay on the OEM course. I LOVE new wiper blades! From my rally car days, "freshy" wiper blades are very important!!!

OK, so for the rear:

Part # for 1992 FJ80 TLC

For the front I purchased these wiper inserts for the front wiper frames.

Thought I would save myself a couple of dead presidents.

Was having a few issues though:

The wiper just did not like going in under all that pressure of the clips being on the outside of the rubber...

So I tried it this way:

With the retaining clips between the rubber and the metal runner. But there was no way to lock the blade in place.

Luckily the garbage man had not ran yet, so I pulled the old rubber-blade out and see what was going on... Sure'nuff...

DIFFERENT

New Insert on left - Original wiper on the right.

So back in the truck and down to the local'yota dealer to show them what was going on. They had no answer, but they did have the full replacement version for $12 more Bring it!

The way to go version!!!

FRESH!!!

And ready to mount. Splattered on some fresh flat black paint too while I had'em off the truck and before putting the new rubber on.

Now I am ready for RAIN!!! hehehheeh

don't know where the heck you've been. it rained half the day on the trail, then i was in an absolute downpour for two hours driving home yesterday.

ok...got first frosty mornings last week and i can say the piaa blade kicked the oems butt. the oem skipped right over the frost while the piaa blade wiped it off.

next, i'll have to try the bosch wipers that some have mentioned.
