HEY!!! just found a listing for an 86 4runner 800$
im going to try and go look @ it sunday the guy couldnt tell me much about it, said he got it from a guy who couldnt get a title for it (so IF it is worth getting ill have to get a title for it) it dosnt sound promising except for the price its a 4cyl auto (do they come in 2wd? i didnt even think to ask him if it was 4x4 b/c iv never seen a 2wd 1st gen)

mainly im asking what do i need to check recheck and then tripple check??

hey yall still been searching.... but that whole going to school keeps getting in the way and iv been going back and forth on keep my dd (04 diesel jetta) the MPG is so great i hate to give it up but i just dont have the room to do the things i wana do (camp)
but i found one i like an 86 4cyl with an automatic
any known problems or issues w/the auto? from the pics it looks good just trying to get the owner to call me back
im just worried about having an automatic (should i be concerned about that?)

The autos are pretty resilient. Just make sure it's been taken care of. They suck some power, but if you don't like it a 5 speed swap is pretty easy.

THANKS! i hope the guy contactas me i really want to go check this thing out...
also the picture has a turn dial next to the 4x4 shift instructions, the pic is really crappy and i cant make out w/the dial does, would that be for a locker like fj80s have??

As a person who has always hated autos on principle, I'm actually pleased with the auto in my 86 22RE. 150K, fluid is happy red, smells good and shifts nice, still get over 20MPG. With the auto you can shift in to low on the fly, which is pretty convenient. I say check the fluid and go for it, if it blows up you can always convert to a real tranny.

Just so it's said, there is a difference in a 4cyliders AT and a V6's AT... And that's the hydraulic TC the V6 has, what Pirate basically calls a 2nd torque converter...

I once had a 4cyl AT with 33/12.50's and to me and another guys surprise, that thing would powerbrake!

To add to it, it actually rode good and had decent power... I bought it as a flip so i didn't have it long, but I didn't think there was anything wrong with it... AT ALL!

Nice truck. And they're great on the sand and in mud, heck even a trail ride b/c of the control you get...

Just watch those "H" transfercases... My V6 4Runner's power was ridiculous. And it was stock tire and 4:56 gears...
