What the heck is this?

Fitting sliders probably changes the vibration pattern enough to make the damper useless, anyway.

Any major mod probably will especially if attached to the frame.

dang i was under there tonite and didnt notice that strange lookin thing...must already be removed

Or your frame didn't need a damper from the factory.

Of course I do not have the technical answer, but I am guessing with reasonable correctness that Toyota does not spend money on research and manufacturing and labor on the assembly line to put this on the truck if its worthless.

Help me out fellow 100 owners, what reason or reasons would one have to remove it? IMHO - it stays

I've seen mass dampers in lots of other places, in Japanese marque vehicles. Evidently, they have a thing about mass dampers...

not sure if the US automakers share their enthusiasm for these things.

They don't share the enthusiasm for smooth ride, predictable handling, low complaints and quiet vehicles. So it's not surprising that the vehicle construction differs in places.

Anybody see the Myth busters "Tesla's Earthquake Machine" piece?

I'm just saying........

I live in California, a smooth ride???? Ha, in and out of my driveway yes. Oh, there is that five mile stretch of new blacktop on Hwy299. All of our hwy (Tinker should I have capped hwy) tax funds go to help our border brothers.

I guess I should consider the rollover threat if I remove this very important piece of factory engineering.
Or possibly the added vibration will cause my lug nuts to back out and I'll end up down on my rotors; what the hell, they need replacing anyway!

This dampener (here we go again) sure is getting a lot of attention. I'm glad I presented such an important question.

Do a search to find out just how much attention this topic has had in the past. :D

It's one of those right of passage questions that almost everyone ask when they buy a 100.

If you are really using the rig off-road I would remove it. I got tired of scraping it and/or getting hung up on it.

Street: Leave it on. Aggressive off-road: Take it off.

The attachment point for strings when driving by remote control "U control" method.

I left mine alone. The truck is perfect and Lexus does everything for a reason. I try not to mess with perfection.
