Has anyone made a list of all tires available in 255/85 r 16? I know about the cooper discoverer st and the bfg MT KM2. The KM2 is shown on the 200 series Paris Dakar truck however I think they have to use 235/85 r 16.

The 235s are a nice tire. For those concerned about the "heavy" land cruiser, F250 diesels came stock with 235s for many years. We have had two diesels ('87 & replaced with a '00) that came with 235s and still run 235s. I run a 255 cooper st, if they drop this size I will go to a 235.

There is also an Interco Trxus tire in that size.

Digging up this old tire thread to ask about long-term findings with 235/85R16 tires, i.e. tall and skinny. For those who have/had them, did you like them? Would you run them again?

I have an opportunity to pick up a used set of Goodyear Wrangler MT/R in that size and I'm seriously considering it. I'm currently running BFG A/T in 265/75R16 and there's nothing wrong with them, but I prefer the aggressive tread pattern and design of the Goodyears. Also, 99% of my driving is on paved roads, so this is a cosmetic choice moreso than anything else. With that said, what about road noise? I think we can all agree that BFG A/T's aren't the quietest tires out there...TIA.

I ran 33x9.50 BFG ATs for about 5 years. Absolutely love them, sold them used to some guy & still had 50% tread left. I also ran 33x12.50 on a different truck & found it hard to keep tires wearing evenly. For daily driving, I would stay away from wider tires. I haven't owned a 100 long enough to know on that truck yet. Personally, I like the pizza cutter look.

Thread resurrection, since this was a place I looked before putting skinny tires on my 100–here’s what 235/85r16s look like with 16x6 steel rims...

Thanks!

Cruiserparts. Brian Jowett at Jowett Performance posted them earlier this year--they were new take offs from some 79 series trucks By the time I finally found a 100 in October, he'd sold what he had left to Cruiserparts; no idea how many they might have left now.

I believe they're Toyota part # 42611-60D30--they show up as available from a number of online sources, though who knows whether they are, since they were never standard on a U.S. model that I'm aware of.

Can anyone confirm the correct part # for the 16x6 steel wheels that @mdcoa is running? He believes they are 42611-60D30, but I sent him a pm, and he couldn't confirm. If you look at partsouq or amayama it wont show a pic. Thanks, still considering these, but I don't know if I can justify the cost.

42611-60D30 is correct and was/is offered on some 76/78/79 series that also use the 5x150 pattern. Be advised that it is only 6 inches wide and 0 offset.

I'd consider 42601-60580 instead. It's 6.5 inches and was offered on the 100 series so the offset (+50 I think for this wheel) is in spec. You can research the pros and cons of offset independent of these specific choices.

You might also consider the 17x7 steel wheel from the 200 series. 42611-60A61. Resale value would be especially strong since it fits most years of the 200 series and 17 inches is a pretty convenient tire size, plus 7 inch width on the 100 is a sweet spot in my opinion. I think more people would run 17's if there were more options readily available. You'd have something pretty unique, imo.

I was very close to getting into the wheel import business so feel free to hit me up with any other questions.

This is some helpful information. Thanks. Can anyone post pics of either of these two wheel options on a LC? I would love to see how far in or out the tire is in relation to the fender.

I do wish someone would get into the wheel import business—would be nice to have those 16x6.5 Type A wheels for less than, what, $300/ea after shipping from partsouq....
What kept you from doing it? The fact that apparently only about four LC guys like skinny tires?

Wheels are tough. They're heavy and expensive to ship around the country, especially without a high volume account. And I could never really get a read on what the actual demand was. Some people wanted one style, some another or other color. I was willing to stock maybe 3 sizes/styles to start with, but determining just how many 100 or 200 series people were truly clamoring for steel or aluminum alternatives was difficult. There a vocal few, but by the time minimum order quantities, ocean freight, transport to my location or amazon, and final shipping were considered it just seemed like too much work for relatively little demand. It might have been more sustainable if dealing with a more common pattern than 5x150, but then there are hundreds of options in those other sizes so not really room there either. There were also some potential safety concerns since the aftermarket manufacturers I dealt with seemed iffy in their quotes about load ratings. I'm sure that would have been fine and not much different than some other options on the market, but I wasn't sure I wanted to be on the hook for a potential life threatening item.

At most it would have been a labor of love just for the community, which would have been cool, but in the end the math just didn't work out.

In the process I did get a wholesale account that gives me access to the UAE supply chain of parts for many brands including Toyota. Think cheaper than Partsouq with the option for freight rather than air. So I have thought about stocking a variety of things, especially expensive and hard to source parts. If I do that I'd be able to get factory wheels too and it wouldn't be my exclusive business, but I have no immediate plans. If anyone reads this and knows of some difficult to source expensive parts, let me know. I should probably check with the 80 series people and figure out what's getting hard to acquire.

Thanks for the great run down. Makes a lot of sense, even though I wished it had worked out differently.

With that license would you be able to take pre-paid orders for non-urgent items (like wheels, for most of us)? That might enable some passing along of savings and completely eliminate risk to you of un-sold inventory.

Alternatively, do folks ever bring containers in? I believe in Land Rover circles there were sometimes opportunities to get something heavy shipped just to where the container was being slowly filled, and then have it arrive when it arrived....

To each their own but skinny tires and inset wheels make the 100 look kind of silly & anemic. But if you want em- have you seen these? Scroll down to the bottom of the page: 16" steel wheels split type $89ea
