I'm looking for a spare set of wheels and have noticed some recent model Toyota 16" wheels are kinda nice looking. Tundras from a couple years ago, one of the Sequioa wheels, etc. So I'm wondering what people have tried to fit on their 80s in this category - factory Toyota alloys only? Seems like the center holes are too small, and also that none of them will fit with their center caps on an 80.

I'm OK with 7" wheels (80s have 8" wheels).

This may be useful to a lot of people, so let us know. Pics if you have them.

Thanks!

The 06 Tundra's 16x7 fit but they are all tucked in behind the flairs like a Land Rover. I had to sell them and get something dished correctly.

I haven't found any of the later 6 lug alloys that don't fit. But the IFS wheels have more backspace, ~1/2-1" depending on year and model. You may or not need/want spacers depending on tire size, fit and/or looks.

Tundra wheels, 1.25" spacers (too wide, going with 1") and 37-12.5/17's.

I ran Hell's Revenge last year with a guy from Minnesota. His 80 had 17 inch alloy rims from a Sequoia, but they were only 7 inches wide instead of the stock 8 inches. At least that's what I remember about the wheels a year later!

My Tundra's are 17 x 7.5".

You losers can never stick to a thread title - heh. Specifically, I'm looking for 16" rims and every response save one was for a 17" rim.

So, looking for 16" Toyota rims that fit. Another thread could be started for 17 inchers, eh?

I want 16" rims for broad tire availability and pricing, but let's not delve there. Thanks, all!!

IdDoug,

The research that I did ... hard to find many people that know anything about what will fit an 80 ... suggested that any 6 lug Toy wheel will work, Sequoia, Tundra, FJC, Tacoma, I went to the tire shops and ask to see their take-off Toy wheels before I changed wheels. Interesting what was under the dust.

As you mentioned the center caps are an issue and they are also an issue with AM. Also as previously mentioned ... some research suggested spacers due to width. I decided against Toy wheels and spacers since I found some AM that fit ... were slightly used and cheap.

Whatever help any of that was ...

If you see the Tacoma in Spokane ... it just found a new home up there.

Sorry about being a loser!:flipoff2:

As I said earlier, “I haven't found any of the later 6 lug alloys that don't fit. But the IFS wheels have more backspace, ~1/2-1" depending on year and model. You may or not need/want spacers depending on tire size, fit and/or looks.”

At one time I had 5 different 6 lug factory wheel sets here, they all fit. 4 types were 16”, the one I chose was 17”, for my application the tires were a better deal for them. The factory alloys are forged and a great deal on Craig's List, most of the time with lug nuts and center caps. Not that that’s important to me, isn’t worth my time to try to fit the caps over the FF hubs.

If you feel the need for a 17” rim thread, knock yourself out, but it’s probably irrelevant all of the 16” & 17” factory alloys that I have tried have fit.:flipoff2:

Have you found a 17" wheel diameter = more $ for the tires vs. a 16" in the same outside diameter?

The Cooper STT's that I'm running are less $$$ in 37-12.5/17, than 325-80/16, both about the same size tire. But most 16" tires are cheaper and have better size selection.

What about putting later model, 93-97 FZJ80 rims; on an FJ80 that originally came with the 15x7 inch rims?

I priced good wheel adapters and even though I paid $60 for my 06 Tundra wheels if you add in the cost of good adapters, it would have cost almost $350 for the 16x7 Toy wheels. I sold the $60 Toy wheels on Ebay for $350 which covered almost all of the cost of a set of 16x8 aftermarket alloys that were dished properly and 4wheelparts even threw in a new set of centercaps as the ones that came with the wheels didn't clear the 80 hubs. The new caps have a perfect 2" circle on them for an emblem and I'm gonna put 4 of firsttoy's Cruiserhead Pig emblems on the caps.. It's not a T logo but it's just as cool.

I would love to run 70 series wheels, but its hard enough just to find a 70 series here! Let alone some wheels just floating around.

Come to Kuwait! You'd find a bunch of them!
