I am importing a HDJ81 from Japan and looking through the pics of the vehicles going to auction, I keep seeing this box mounted to the side of the hump, right where the passenger right foot is.
Anyone know?

P.S. I tried to upload the pic twice, don't know if it loaded, or not?!?

I'm guessing that's a '95+ truck? I'm waiting on my 2nd HDJ81 to arrive ('91 and '93), and I've never seen that box before, interested to hear what it is as well.

Weird. It looks like there is a recessed latch on the top and that it might fold down. I wonder it is a cup holder or something? It would be an odd location, but then again a small, square cup holder under my right elbow is not the most convenient location either.

ngrich has it right... it is a "Clean Box" or trash bin. Can't drive around with loose trash all over the floor. Now you have a nice bin to put it in. I had an 83 Oldsmobile with a little trash receptacle. It is a great feature to have.
Do a search for "JDM Goodies" or something like that. There is a thread which contains some PDF copies of the old accessories brochures. There is some really cool stuff from back then

That's the box for the "Central Vacuum System" that was an option on these trucks. If you open the box, you will find a hose attachment point to attach your in-cabin vacuum hose and brush head. As long as the engine is running, there is a hose that runs from that box back to the air cleaner on the engine, and when the engine is running, it will suck the dirt and debris from the inside of the cabin out to the air filter. The engine becomes the vacuum pump and the air cleaner is the filter. You just have to change your engine air filter a bit more often when you use this option. Some trucks had a small cyclone attached to the side of the intake air filter housing under the hood to drop out the large rocks and dirt to avoid over-filling the air filter on the engine.

Are the hose and brush-head coming with this truck?
