i remember seeing a thread about door speakers for the 60 series, and the consensus was that Crutchfield had a pair of 5" that would work . because of the depth of the panel, not many would.
I went to the web site, but the no longer carry any speakers the "fit your car"
any ideas? with the nice weather coming, i like to drive with the windows down, and then i cant hear anything except cracking.

I just dropped 5-1/4" Polks in the doors - no fitment issues at all. If you line it up right there are speaker holes cut in the inner door frame as well - shouldn't ever be any issues with depth. Pop the door panels off and take a look - EZPZ.

I have 5 1/4" alpine type Rs in the fron doors with nothing but 1/8" plexiglass as a spacer, no where close to rubbing.

5 1/4 Infinity 5002I up front fits fine

some have spacing issues, whatever i got to fit up front wouldnt work they are sitting in my garage till i find time to mess with them again They are rockford fosgate. not knwo model # off top of my head.

6" 3-way Infinity Kappa's fit in mine with very very minor grinding..... :)

Do any of these speaker setups NOT require you to cut the stock door panel?

Sure I installed some Alpines that are not totally flush with door but the stock door panel fits right on over them.

I used some 5-1/4" Blaupunkts. Seem to be fine, and the stock grill fits over them.

5.25" Pioneer from Wally world (cheap) I had to drill a couple mounting holes and I shimmed them out a hair to make sure the window didn't hit. Used the stock cover and they sound pretty good and no major modification was needed.

Since Gulp3000 revived this thread I will add my .02. I just read this thread last week and went and got 6.5 inch alpines. They definitely fit with no rubbing on the window. The door trim panel bulges slightly over the speakers but everything fits and they sound great. I don't have any other speakers in the cruiser besides these and they are nice and clear and loud enough that I can still hear the music at highway speeds with the windows down.

A great choice. Cost me 100.00.

6.5" Kenwood 3ways. Cant remember model. I took off the stock grills and put on the Kenwoods. No rubbing problems.

a buddy installed some component speakers- 5.25 and 1", I think. The sound difference was pretty impressive.
