What does 'band assy, fold seat stopper, no. 1' actually do?

Can anyone tell me what this part is meant to do please? It's associated with the rear seat (which in the case of my 80 is a full-width bench 2nd row seat not a split-fold type):

78950BAND ASSY, FOLD SEAT STOPPER, NO.1
78950-60010-03BLUISH GRAY, TRIM1*1$75.83
78950-60010-06SABLE, TRIM4* (01/1990 - 07/1991)1$75.83
78950-60011-03BLUISH GRAY, TRIM1* (08/1991 - 07/1992)1$73.06
78950-60011-06SABLE, TRIM4* (08/1991 - 07/1992)1$73.22

There is a 'no 2' version of this part, which presumably applies with the split-fold config only.

Thanks, Craig.

I’m pretty sure it’s the strap that holds the seat in place when it’s folded and tumbled forward. There is probably one on each side. It’s hard to tell from the parts diagram.

Here's some pics of what's in my '93 for comparison. It's a NA spec with the 50/50 split 2nd row. There are no part #'s on any of the parts. Hope this helps...

Ah ha those pics are exactly what I was after thankyou! I had no idea what the little 'pocket' on the seat base cover was for either so you've solved another mystery.

There is the remains of one of those strap things with my 80's rear seat but I've never seen a complete one before with hook.

I thought the rear seat just stayed put without needing securing when folded forward but maybe it does.

Craig.

I always thought they added that for any third row passengers exiting the the vehicle could grab the folded seat without pulling it back into them.
