i am planning similar

was thinking about making a removable side panel that could be carried on roof rack and installed at trail. along with removable front doors. then you dont need the b pilar that gets in way of opening doors

considering also punching a hole behind the rear doors to connect the cage better-tie it together right behind the kids heads behind the second seat. (c-pillar).

:clap:Do it dude!!!! But :hmm: I think I will stick with my design for my 80!:hillbilly:

And i thought people used tube to keep the weight down, HA HA. Lookin good Roy.

Yep, you're supposed to hack off the roof first :D

Gonna be fun painting that tube . Looks awesome, keep rolling

Looks tough.

I am starting to like that front bumper design.

so hot
keep it comin.
you dont know where those cool tube caps camr from do ya-the ones on the rear bumnper?
Thanks...

I don't know where you live but you should be able to get them from a local welding supply store or fab shop!

That's why I used tubing for my bumpers instead of heavy ARB's! My bumpers and EXO are only going to add about 200lbs total to the 80!

It looks alot heavier than it really is!

Thanks for all the nice comp's!!!!

I wish I could hack the top of and still retain all the creature comforts!!!
That would be a real slice of Heaven right there!!!

Here are some pics of the tubing connecters that I referred to in post #39 in this thread and the last pic shows where they go.

You can get the tube caps at Butches Speed Shop here in Vegas.

But they will ship anyplace.

Call them.

You can also get the tubing conectors there.

Not real happy with the wheel hoop and how the tube ties in from the top....re-work'n it!

i gotta eat some crow here. I thought at first, good lawd, what is he doing!! But that is turning out a lot better than i expected. How much extra weight do you think that tubing is adding?

Also, do you feel that this cage will eliminate any body damage? Im just thinking that laying it on it's side, or rubbing a tree, hopefully not a full roll, but the tube will flex into the body and dent it? what do you think?

Scott said that it will only add about 200lb's including bumper's!
Tubing is hollow of course so it really doesn't weigh alot!

This tubing is very strong! Scott and I are both in the 300lb range and we have been swinging on it really hard and getting little if any movement!:clap: In a full rollover I would guess there would be body damage and possibly some damage if it was laid over (hopefully only if rocks or limbs are protruding out)! Rubbing up against a tree or rock I don't think would ever hurt the body...there just doesn't seem to any flex to allow that!....hopefully I don't end up eating crow:eek::D! Even if the tubing does flex into the body...if I hit something that hard it will still be WAY WAY less damage than not having the EXO!:grinpimp:

I am sorry, I just don't get it. :D What are you protecting. From the looks you already hit the rear quarter. Why not fix that then if you are worried about the body. Also, why not fill the holes on the flares. I know you said you don't want an internal cage due to interference, but we did one it the BlueBerry that did not interfere at all. It can be done. I would much rather have a stong cage that protects in the event of a roll over, than a exco that tries to protect the body.

I had little tubes on the side of the shortbus to protect the back of the cab. You can see it here

I can not tell you the number of times I got hung up on those. Also, I did hit them hard enough on a number of points to actually dent the body. The tube might not flex, but the body moves a lot on the mounts.

I would venture to say that if you lay that thing on it's side hard, the tubes are going to be imprinted on the body.

Well as you can see we are almost done  This has been a fun project and working with Roy has been a real pleasure he knows what he wants, and he is also open to other ideas :idea:with a little push:eek::lol: This is the first time I have put a cage on the OUTSIDE:confused:

As Roy said above this cage is made to keep the damage down in case he finds some rocks or trees ;)will it protect him in a rollover yes!!! and that is important to me.

Im sure there will be more pictures Friday when it is complete wait till you see the top diamonds are a roofs best friend.

Stay tuned:popcorn:

:cheers::beer:

I guess he'll just have to go out and roll that thing and test the cage!!

You see this is the main thing I want to avoid! The front fenders totally crushed and the rear quarter TOTALLY CRUSHED from being pounded by rocks!!! As you can see this guy has never rolled his truck but it is beat up so bad that he can't even put glass back in that rear window!!! And yes I do believe My EXO cage will save my life in the event of a rollover!

That's the body damage that I don't want! A few minor dents and scatches don't bother me and by the way I can still fix all the flare holes.:D I have had a 1st gen 4rnr once that was so beat up from rocks and trees that the front marker lights didn't fit anymore and the rear tail lights didn't fit anymore and it was hard to even tell what kind of vehicle it was:hmm:anymore! :frown::mad: That sucks!

And Cristo, I am 6'4" 320lbs and when I sit in a 100 I have to have the seat all the way back and the back of the seat reclined quite a bit and my head is still less than 2" from the roof:eek:...look in this pic of your hundy...my head would be up there bouncing off those tubes like a pin ball in a pinball machine:eek::doh:! Thats one of the reasons I didn't buy your BB!:D

Not to mention look at all the work that went into doing that:eek:...I have a fraction of the labor cost in this EXO than I would doing what you did!;p. Don't get me wrong I love your hundy but over all I think what I'm doing is MUCH more cost effective and will work much better for me!
