Well, Today I removed the head off the engine, a 1985 3B in a BJ70.
Head gasket had let go on number 2 pot.
It only had 800,000klm on it so time for a rebuild.
Got plenty of repair manuals, just looking for parts manuals / information now.
The last B engine I rebuilt was in about 1990 ish, maybe 89. I have heard I can install steel top pistons so I can put a turbo on when I finish the build with less worry.
Mine is same age, but only has 306500km on it. I'm still about to figure out whether the engine is healthy. Waiting for a compression test device to become available to me, and closely monitoring oil-level and -condition.
No issue with coolant, but have the impression my oil gets diluted by diesel.
Will you do a rebuild thread?
Cheers Felde

Used the school's laser to make a stencil.
Sprayed vinyl paint onto spare tire cover.

The shop turned up my fuel approximately 10%. Combined with 10-11psi of boost, made a significant difference.

Of all of the license plates I have decorating my Cruiser garage (now totaling 99), I was lacking New Zealand tags. With the help of a Cruiserhead in New Zealand that oversight has been corrected. :)
The black vintage one is especially cool. 😊

Maybe I should, I will take some photos today and get started, I also have an older B engine and an H that I was thinking of rebuilding.

Been a long time since I was on the tools from an engine rebuild point of view but it's a bit like riding a bike, it's coming back to me.

I did a in frame rebuild on my 3B 3 months ago. I bought a 4 oz sample of cerakote heat shield piston coat. Put it on with the brush and bake the Pistons in the oven to cure.
If you're going to turbo it give yourself a little more ring Gap clearance then the factory minimum.
3B Pistons can be expensive. I bought mine on eBay here:. #P068 Set of 4 102mm Piston Set 13101-58050 For TOYOTA Engine 3B | eBay

They were less than half the cost of new OEM. No problems yet.

If you’re considering Red Arc gauges bear in mind that they are a tad bright at night (at least in my application) and this dimming unit will be required. (not included with the gauges).

We've been working on our house 24/7 so I haven't touched the Cruiser other than installing the Alu-Cab 270º Shadow Awning. If you're considering one of these, do it before you install the Hercules top. What a pain in the butt. I ended up moving the front bracket forward 13" so I had room to install it properly. We haven't left the neighborhood in two weeks due to our Covid stay-at-home orders but once it lifts, I'll post some photos.

That's one fine lookin lil SWB. Damn.

Halfway through rebuilding my flares. The originals were a bit of a bodgy work around with garden edging & the old narrow rubber flares just to get it legal. These are still a bit bodgy but should be more durable & hold a better shape. 4.5mm insertion rubber bolted to rivnuts under the guards, with a 25x3mm stainless strip riveted on underneath ~70mm outboard.

Great job; looks good and functional. I really need to do something like this.

My door checks were completely worthless. I can validate this statement by saying that I took them out while waiting for the new ones to arrive and they indeed did nothing. I now feel like an idiot for not doing this first-thing. Bang for your buck update level = 10.

I took one of my door limiters apart, cleaned and lubed it and put it back.
Getting it back together was hard: the springs inside are powerful.
I bought new ones for the rear doors.
