And to expand a bit on my earlier commentary: all Land Cruisers need to be treated like working machines (presses, shears, etc).

All folks that are buying these Japanese or non-US trucks should be going through all of their systems: HVAC, cooling, all fluids, all cooling components, brakes, seals, etc.-- fact of the matter Is we are getting hand-me-downs, or at least vehicles that are 25+ yrs old.

You need to do a lot with them to keep them going and if you don't your are going to be upset. IE: Your truck is going to fail on you.

These Diesel engined vehicles especially need care for the long term.

Let's make a deal…you put together a checklist of all the things I should be doing with parts needed (HVAC, cooling, etc.) and I'll order all the parts through you.:)

PM inbound...

And what you would do DEFINITELY appears different than what the average owner might do;)

Thanks for the help. I look forward to spending many paychecks on OEM toyota parts

Just out of interest I see you've got all new TRE's and clamps there, I don't know how Toyota work out their pricing but over here in NZ I can buy a complete 70 series tierod with TREs in both ends, clamps and all the nuts, bolts, splits pins etc for $29 USD ($45 NZD) plus 15% GST (sales tax) which I can claim back anyway, the draglink/relay rod is the same price with all the TREs etc included as well. They have stock in NZ at the moment but usually they are ordered ex Japan and I've never been charged freight to get them here. My truck is RHD so they will be RHD part numbers

I bet shipping to the U.S. would be expensive :(

Taken apart the rear axle shafts and pulled out the seals & bearings on my 89bj75 PU. The axle shafts are scored from the bearings, ouch! I have a 82bj60 donor but the #'s don't match on the left side. Before I tear apart the differential, will it work is the question?
89bj75 # 42312-60070
82bj60 # 42312-60050
The right side #'s are the same, # 42311-60060
Thanks,

Post your list up here if you don't mind. I need to make a to do list for my BJ74.

I would start with general maintenance stolen from Land Cruisers Direct - Checklist Applied to Every Vehicle

I would add
Timing belt and idler replace
Replace all the rubber hoses and factory clamps
Replace all the drive belts
Radiator cap and thermostat
Injector service
Tie rod ends
Water pump
Fan clutch

Thats a checklist that i am doing to mine

chasing rust getting ready for winter…..

Finished up engine bay mechanicals:

1. New lines/gaskets to the vacuum pump. Gaskets available in the US market, lines came from Japan.

And buttoned her up: all clamps tight, all nuts and bolts tight, alternator torqued down, belts tight, fan clutch nuts torqued, radiator solid. Burping the systems (fuel and coolant) tomorrow.

Wonder if the return line is close enough to work on a 13B-T? The return line for the 13B-T has been discontinued :(

Will do. Or we can compare at Logan's Run. I had already figured I was making a trip to a hydraulic hose shop when the time comes for replacement (next oil change)
