Do you think that BFG failed due to age or did you find a big puncture in it?

If age, how old are they - date code?

I wonder if it is the same TPMS system he has in his 40? It is an impressive aftermarket system

Got more info? Oh and BTW you couldn't help yourself and clicked the link...

The TPMS is made by Schrader (the valve people) and I have one in both the taco and the FJ40.

I got the first one in the taco after Disccount Tire guy in El Paso broke the Toyota factory one during a flat repair.

Discount Tire guy in Tucson found out Toyota would only sell him a matched set of four for $200. He showed me the Schrader retrofit kit that shows the individual pressures and temperatures and I immediately liked it better than the factory idiot light. Discount Tire kicked in the $200 and I paid about $50 more for the kit.

I like it so much that I bought one for the FJ40.

Part number is SCH-BRK-4PC. You can buy a fifth sensor for your spare as well.

That looks like a pretty serious failure. Be interesting to find out what caused it. Looks like a casing failure plus that radial crack from the rim to the tread... weird.

Also, your Tacoma TPMS shows individual tire pressures? Please elaborate on this.

I haven't looked too closely at it but i think the original failure was tread separation. The sidewall cracked open as I limped along the shoulder until I could get into the bar ditch to change it.

At least 50k miles on these & I beat the snot out of them. Lots of missing chunks and sidewall gouges and they are down to the wear bars.

I got the full value out of them!
