Welding Riveted Wheels

Has anyone welded riveted wheels and then grind down or removed the rivets?

Someone local to me is selling 4 stock riveted FJ40 wheels and hub caps for what I think is a low price, but I have a disk brake conversion. Am I being too cheap?

Yes I had heard of a guy doing just as you said... But... It didn't work .... It's also the contour of the rim that then interferes afaik

i did that years ago to some riveted rims and put them on my 85 4 runner not worth the work .the dumb part was i had the disc brake wheels but didnt want to spend money on dismount and remount wouldnt do it again .ended up scrapping the wheels years later because i didnt want someone else getting them because they were home made

Besides the rivets, the inner part of the rim has lips that hit the caliper. Hard to get in there and grind that part off.
