Jordan - go help this boy out! Bring some scraps and a few 7018's and melt some metal. I'm about ready to jump in the truck and drive uo the memphis myself...;p

Slabsides, where ya at? I'd be glad to come offer some advice. I'm pretty proficient with a stick...

...that's what she said? :meh:

Wait till I get my 4x4 labs bumper kit.

How much money does the DIY kit really save?

Also, do you really want a spare tire blocking your rear window? I would hate that thing Lenny has on his truck personally.

Thanks for the help y'all! I'm in Desoto county, would be grateful if someone is willing to show me the basics at some point.

Guess I'm a bit turned around on the stick vs mig vs tig, thought each was a dedicated unit unto itself.

It's either a kaymar or 4x4 labs for me because I need to tow. Also with 4x4 labs
you can keep spare in original location as long as your tire isn't too big. I do not want a full time tire swingout. I use my tailgate and drawers 100 times a day. I am going fab or have someone fab a swingout that I can use the 12 days a year I offroad it.

The basic kit is 495 and built is 895 IIRC.
Jordan said he could help me with it.

I will be more then happy to help you guys out. Mike I bought the Labs kit and did it myself went together pretty easy. I dont mind helping doing another. Slabside, your more than welcome to come by the house and try some welding.

Southff4, I was down in Hernando tonight. Went to Como for a steak and came back on 51, just to see how high the water was. Yeah, I'd like to do that some time, just email or post up a good schedule we can figure out.

I also wanna get in on one of those Memphis wrenching sessions, good hands on education.

Thanks to Todd and Brian, I'm now a certified welder! Woot!

Got the basics of MIG welding down, now it's time get a MIG... and practice waaay more.

No problem, it was fun hanging out with you guys. We'll have to do that again.

i personly have a hobart 125ez handler that is wire feed and i love it iv built a few racks and bumpers for 4 wheelers with it so far and it does a good job preaty cheap to, look at norther tool for the best price

southff4 has a Hobart 140, and I must say it was pretty easy (even for me) to learn on. I keep getting recommendations to go with something 220V, but I don't have a set plug. Could do as finewynsfj40 suggests, and just get a roll-o-romar to make my own extension cord, then use the dryer hookup.....

I really don't wanna go spend 1K on a welder that I might never step up and fully use. A Millermatic 211 is sweet, but for a guy like me? Heck, what I'm seeing is that guys with MUCH more experience are using less machine than that with great success.

Sell the TIG yet?

If you're going to own only one welder, I'd make sure it was a 230v welder. If you don't want to spend the money on a Millermatic 211, then look at Hobart Handler 187 or 210 or better yet, find a good used one.

Installing 230v receptacle is not that difficult as long as the panel is close by. If you the panel is in the garage, it is about as easiest as it gets.

Hobart 125EZ is a flux core ONLY welder. Nice welder if that is all you'll ever want to do.

Yes indeed. :grinpimp: southff4 helped me out, his friend that he called the night we were welding bought it the next day!

Will look into a 187 and see what I can find.

I suppose I can look into getting a 220V down in the barn; I installed a water heater and wired it in, and sold the stupid horse before I ever started using it. Can re-route that one and it should get the job done.

Anyone know where a brotha can find a nice used 187 or someone with a Miller 211 in a fire sale?
