I am the proud new owner of my 83 toyota truck. I bought it with carb missing. I bought the Weber 32/36 conversion kit and just installed it. My problem is the throttle cable and how to hook it up. All that is there is the cable its self, no rods or anything else. Just the wire sticking out of the cable. The carb came with the adapter wich is the longer U shaped linkage what do i need to hook up the cable to it.

This is my first carb experience and any help would be appreciated. What am I missing and where do I find it.

Thanks and look foward to learning alot along the way.

Pics of the linkage would be great if anyone has some!!!

linkage help

I have looked at most of the carb threads and have not found an answer on how to hook up cable to weber carb. All I have is the wire coming out of the cable. ( carb was off truck when I bought it.

Any pics of the linkage on a weber would be great. Thanks

I get off at 6 pm

if you still need help pm me then I can call you.........I know its a bitch. Even after you figure it out then the damn carb bar. still wil not turn.

Before I got my crab I installed an MAzda MVP linkage which made it even harder

Not sure how different the '83 is from an '85 but...

There are several brackets required.
- One on the valve cover that supports the cable
- One on the rear of the intake manifold that supports the "bellcrank" contraption which in turn twists the carb throttle.

Here's some old pics of my '85 with a 32/36. My kid has the camera otherwise I'd snap a few of the linkage described above.... unless someone else chimes in. Hope this helps!

22 wont start

I just bought a 83 toy with 22r. It was bought with no carb. I NEVER HEARD IT RUN! I just put a 32/36 weber on with manual choke. I set the timeing @ 0 with motor @ TDC. Is this right?

When I try to start truck all it does is backfire and flame out. I have spark and am getting fuel to carb. The wires are going to the right plugs too.

Any help or advice anyone? Tkanks

sounds like the timing

when you are 180* out, then you are firing on tdc exhaust stroke, you need to pull the distributor and crank the motor 180* and reinstall distributor. make sure it is on #1 when you reinstall it.
and to explain a little more your 22r is a 4 stroke engine, so you have 2 tdc, one compression and one to send the spent gasses out the exhaust valve, so it is called exhaust stroke.

I thought of that but with it at TDC I took the #1 plug out and the piston was all the way up isnt that the compression stroke?

This happens all the time, so don't feel like the Lone Ranger...

With the head off, you'd see the #1 and #4 and the #2 and #3 pistons travel at the same stroke...

So the timing mark for both TDC, and B-TDC are the same.

You just put the crank at TDC (the same mark for B-TDC) and with the valve cover removed, look for the key way or pin in the cam, and make sure it's at 12:00.

Then you put the distributor in, with the button pointing at the #1 on the cap.

And you should notice if it was at #4 when you pulled it out.

Look in the Factory Service Manual or a Chiltons for adjusting the valves procedures and it will become very clear.

Once again, the TDC mark can have the cam in two places, 12:00 (TDC) and at 6:00 (B-TDC)

But you need crank at TDC, and the cam gear pin at 12:00.

We think it's at 6:00
