Been a while since i've done a T-belt & water pump on a 2UZ ('02 Sequoia).

I've normally just used ONLY the metal gaskets that come with the Aisin TKT-021 kit.

However, upon removal of the passenger timing cover, i've noticed that there is no metal gasket on the water pump & T-stat housing. Just black RTV gasket sealant?

What is todays consensus on the water pump gasket? Just use the metal gasket, or metal gasket with a coating of gasket sealant?

Also (vaguely) read something about the OEM toyota FIPG sealant (expensive). Should a coating be used on the water pump thread bolts?

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. So in other words, these gaskets should be sufficient enough as-is? I’m not replacing my t-stat housing.

Also, should I apply sealant to the water pump bolts?

Sealant is not necessary for water pump, metal gasket is sufficient. Just make sure you properly torque water pump bolts to spec. As for the water inlet use FIPG. By the way, I am not a fan of FelPro gaskets especially the blue ones. 🙄 I would only use OEM or Aisin.

Thanks for the heads up. Just ordered an OEM one
