Hey all,

The lower element on our water heater seems to show 120v on one terminal when grounded, nothing on the other, if it is t attached & pulling the 120 from the first one, and then when I test across both screws, I get basically 0v instead of 240.

The other day a mouse got in their & bridged the terminals, killing it all. I’ve replaced both elements & both thermostats now, but still seem to not get 240 on the lower.

Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!
Abe

not sure I got all that, and certainly not an expert, but did you check the breaker situation? Is it possible somebody improvised something weird with the breaker(s) in the past for the supply, maybe something like 2 independent 1-pole breakers?
