I had the opposite feeling - other than all the water, it looked a lot like the Northeast.

That just goes to show my inexperience in that part of the country, I suppose. I mostly travel/vacation west. I'll have to make some visits up there!
 
More photo driven research on alternators. The VW/Audi group part actually has the bolt holes 90 degree to the 5.7L alternator. This might actually make it easier to construct a bracket. The downside is that the serpentine belt will probably have to be a different length as the mounting position will be offset some. And I just bought a serpentine belt recently.

I"m currently trying to determine if the water cooled VW/Audi part is better when submersed (ie less likely to sludge up). The $2300 quoted one above are SEALED and water cooled. May have to actually order a VW alternator to determine this. Has anyone see the VW/Audi water cooled alternator in person? Can you comment on how sealed it is or isn't?
