It says 5 ton on it though ? 2000lbs to a ton, so 10000 ?

I am at a loss here, however for $60 i didn't do too bad here, did i ? i am trying to learn from you Dan ...

That would be great Dan if you have them, Yea this deal poped up on CL yesterday about 4pm, a guy from Madera asking $100, i went and looked after work, and offered him $60. When he said he would take it, i couldn't get my money out of my pocket fast enough .. :)

He said it works good and if it for some reason don't, i can have my $60 back ...

I do need a controller for it, and a fairlead, however i think i wil be able to find those around ...

Thanks again for yor help ..

Yes it does, i just went and looked cause i have a new warn m8000 on my 40, so i thought i could use that controller. I was wrong, that would be great if you do have one, any fairleads laying around too ?

also what is a good source for parts, i want to get the sleeves that cover those long threaded bolts over the wire.

I was cleaning it up a little today and noticed a stamp on the top of the motor, above where the sticker used to be. to the left of where the free spool lever is, K15 .. ? not sure if that means anything. I am going to see if warn is open today to see if they can help id this thing ..

Thanks again for any help ...

Here is the e-mails that were sent back and forth on mine.

That’s an old 6000 lb winch. You can use the attached parts diagram. Please note, that style of clutch lever is no longer available, if it needs to be repaired you will need to replace the entire assembly.

Dan,

The winch model will be on the clutch side of the winch. The numbers you have provided are on the motor side and pertain only to the motor. If you can send a picture we can see if we can identify it for you.

More then likely the winch will need to be looked at by an authorized service center to determine what is going on. There is a list of authorized service centers on our website that you can use to determine who is closest to you.

Winch Identification
I need help identifying my WARN winch. It looks exactly like an M8000 but the engage / disengage handle is a flat plastic knob. The number on the tag on the unit are (MRV-B-7) N (16543) V (12) 09 86 I'm having a problem spooling the cable in. It has no power. You can grab the cable with your hand and stop the winch. I have taken it to two red letter warn dealers. The first one said my remote controler was bad. It worked the same with the new remote controller. The second red letter dealer said there was nothing worng with it. He said it was just a cheap entry level winch and I if I need more power I should buy a new bigger winch. I bought the winch new and put it on my 88 toyota. It is now on my 82 CJ 8. Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated. Dan

Thanks Dan, i wonder how many years they used that motor, also did you read my thread where i found a stamp on top of the casing, mot the motor side but the side to the left of the free spool knob. It is stamped with a K15, not sure if that is a normal stamp or someone else did this. I am going to attempt to contact Warn on monday and send them those pics i have and see what they say. I want to get this thing installed, i have a new bumper its going in that i just got back from the powder coating shop on friday, so i want to get on this ASAP ... Again, thanks for ALL your help, if you find a controller and or fairlead, let me know. It would be a great excuse to meet you ....

Very good, how much you want for it ? Do you think they quit making these controllers ? another question, what is a good parts source for Warn winches ?
