I am looking for info on building or buying a wiring harness for my crawler.

I have a 22re. I want to simplify it. I run an electric fuel pump and electric fan. They are both on switches. Easy to wire them in. Just keep them switched.

My Dash will consist of master power, push button for starter, fan switch and pump switch.

Need to charge the battery and wire the starter.

Please help if there are threads

Thanks
Shawn

Well, which harness do you intend to build, an engine harness, or a body harness?

If your intent is to keep the EFI, then your alternator wiring will be part of this.
The starter is much more simple: there's the positive battery lead on the solenoid, and the exciter wire from the ignition. The battery is always "on", but the starter solenoid is always open. The igniton uses the exciter wire to tell the solenoid to make contact.
There will be a smaller lead off the battery terminal to the ignition switch that is the source for teh exciter wire.

IMO, it's much easier to build your own harness for a carbed truck than an EFI truck, because you'll have to wire in the computer, and make it happy on your own. My suggestion: keep the stock engine harness, and leave it totally alone, and just grab an aftermarket fuse block to make room for however many switched electrics you can afford to cobble together.

The computer is the hardest part. I was hoping to get rid of all the connectors on the harness and get rid of anything extra. I may have to split the wrap and trace backwards from the computer and get rid of the rest.

The body is not the problem, running switches and starter is easy. The rest of the crap is the problem.

Thanks

I know where your coming from luby. I want to do something similar.:frown:

This is the 2nd time I blow fuses and have to get a tow truck to tow me home.:crybaby:

I was planning to fix the factory Cruise control but, I'm tired of being tired of messing with loose wires all over the cab and engine.:mad::mad:

I am going to the junk yard and pull a harness. Then start stripping it and get rid of everything i do not need.

that is the way to go, IMO. I plan on doing this myself someday, too. i think building an Aux. harness for all your added-on stuff, and keeping ti separate from everything else is ideal, that way the failure of one wouldn't interfere with the functionality of the other.

yes have the alt harness just go to the battery and run a hot lead from the battery to an aux fuse block and run everything else. keep it simple.

I have a Complete engine and cab harness with ECU from a 1988 4runner DLX with a 22RE. PM me if you're interested. In in salt lake city

You could always go with a Megasqirt system and a different harness. Then you can run whatever sensors you want.
