I've never attempted this before on any vehicle and wanted to make sure this truly is safe to do it this way.

I searched but could not find anything on this.

I used that exact guide to do mine, and intend to do it again within the next month. I have a 2022 so it's relatively new, and have been doing drain and fills (without dropping the pan and changing the filter) every 40,000 miles or so. I also added a cooler, but the guide works to set the level of the trans fluid. Been working fine so far.

One could simply pin the thermostat and do the same thing at AT cooler lines attached to radiator.

I'm assuming this a pump fed loop then that goes through the trans to the radiator (trans cooler section) and back to the trans?

Does it work then to disconnect the ingress and egress trans hoses from the radiator, use two buckets, one for the egress hose from trans and one for the ingress hose to the trans? The egress bucket would be empty to collect the trans fluid and the ingress bucket would be filled with new fluid. Start the vehicle and wait for the fluid to turn clean?

I've never done it myself but have seen it done that way with 4Rs, Tundras, and 100/200 series LCs

I've heard a few 460 owners over the years utilizing method as well

Here is how I do it. Egress line into a jug or graduated bucket to capture old fluid. Motive Power Fill into the ingress line (to the trans pans). Start engine, run thru the gears, allow 2 quarts to come out the egress line. Turn off, add 2 fresh quarts to the ingress line via the Motive Power Fill. Then start the engine and repeat for another 2-quart cycle, and keep repeating the cycles until clean fluid comes out the egress line, add around 1 extra quart of clean fluid, then check the level at the pan with the trans at operating temp. Keep track of the removed and added fluids to make sure the trans doesn't end up over- or under-full. (this should take ~16 quarts total out and in). Since the Power Fill is pressurized, it will refill the trans MUCH faster than by gravity. I don't think the trans will "pull" fluid in via the egress line, I believe it pushes it out the egress line to the trans cooler and back into the trans.

FYI, the Power Fill is also handy for changing diff and T-case fluid. I should really get a commission from them as I keep recommending their products to folks...

I actually did buy a Motive for this with the fill attachments :). Is the top connection on the radiator the egress hose from the trans? I am going to attempt this today.

Completed the job today. Time consuming but it worked. I removed the hose like in the video above. That hose goes to the bottom connector on the radiator which was confusing.

At 15k the original trans fluid was almost just as red as the new fluid. The rear diff however was near black.

If you're wondering where to dump your old transmission fluid, I just pour it either down the kitchen sink or in the gutter.

ONLY KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, I think all the major autopart's stores accept used oil. I know they accept old batteries, at least my nearby Auto Zone does.

Used oil is actually fairly valuable as a heating oil. Many shops/commercial/industrial buildings have heating systems that run on it.

Local auto parts stores generally take all the oils here. Coolant I have to take to a county disposal site.

What? You don't put out your coolant in a bowl for the local dog's and cat's??

I find this way much easier than dealing with cooler upfront, 2 quarts at a time iirc was ~30sec to pump that out. Fill and then rinse and repeat.

Summer maintenance..

I'll probably stay in my comfort zone...:-) ... do my typical stock drain....and then pressure fill via one of my larger capacity Motiv bleeders... followed by a OBD Link temp based fluid level check to a trickle
