Sorry folks not cruisers in the garage today just my little diesel which is getting some new headlight lens , upgraded to ge nighhawk 90percent better coverage...

One banana job, hardest part was peeling the plastic light off and cleaning out the goo with a heat gun..

Plugged one in tonight in the garage, very very bright on low beams:cool:

This will be my daughters car one days so I am going to do struts all around and maybe a snazy little stereo.. She is writing for her learners this week.

Nice.
That mod sure gives the car back a few years, she was looking a bit tired before. How did you separate the lenses from the housings?

Old school flat blade screw driver or in my case I have a set up door panel removers and flat wide blades, pry and peel apart.

Heat gun after removed and scrape out sticky adhesive, reapply clear 3m silicone and stick together with new clips..

What struts are you going with? ... I'm debating going for some new suspension on my little jetta... I was looking at the packaged setup on rockauto...

Thinkin Bilestiens?:steer:

Gonna pull intake this summer and clean or replace, some say its cheap to replace rather than clean.

Did Fuel filter
Oil filter and oil
cleaned intake
In cabin filter

Next on list is to run moley lube injector cleaner..

Get the fuel pump check for correct timing..

Suspension, set it up for four people and a enclosed roof rack for boards and skis.

New rotors and pads tomorrow night..

lovely...

I need to do some stuff to mine. I have a bit of a coolant leak from the oil cooler, just enough to be mildly annoying..and I should probably clean a few things out. No doubt my intercooler is full of crap.

But I also suspect I'll be needing to do a clutch at some point in the next 6 months, so I'm thinking I'll deal with a few things all at once then.

WOW that is a lot of crud!

Yep it was quite stuffed full of crud..;)

EGR delete perhaps might be in your best interest.

Looked at delete and that particular year would throw a constant code... Instead I will do the computer upgrade and get extra 25HP and something like 35ft pounds. This also includes I think? a egr control, opens momentarily then closes..

First thing I did was the intercooler, why vw did not put a drain on this sucker:rolleyes:

Pulls way harder were it use to flatten out, 3 to 4 grand is fun now... Threw a can of Sea Foam into the fuel filter, will still run some of the that german stuff through the fuel system..

Clutch looks pretty simple..

Going to have the fuel pump checked and do a first tank base line, hope to see into the 1000K....

from the "nasty s*** that should've been replaced long ago" file....

Turns out a 96 passat has a cabin air filter....news to me, and from the looks of it, news to everyone else who's ever owned this car..

I noticed the fan worked a lot better on re-circ than on fresh which is why I checked..

Note the nice little mouse stash on my strut tower....Little bastard has been chewing on my hood mat.

This comes from replacing the one in the wife's crv last weekend.

Honda Bend Over Service sans Lubrication, Fingernails Unclipped for your pleasure;

---> Cabin Air filter $33.75 x2 ( yes there are two of em.)
+ $85 to install.

I bought the two filters for $6 apiece from Duncan Auto, took me all of 5 minutes to replace them. Fxxx you very much, Mr Honda.

amazes me you can't get 1k out of it. I'm back to commuting to nanaimo and I cracked the 1300 mark on my last tank.

Even the good Deodorizing cabin Air filters from Lordco are half the price of those Honda ones... and $85 for a five minute job should be criminal... Last time I checked their rates weren't $1000/hour... or even $200/hour if they took 5 times as long as you did.

Yeah...she only asked for amusement . Didn't get them to do it obviously ...

Other good one condenser fan. 130 Duncan auto, 460 at Honda.

And then you look at how tiny the fan is and really get mad...

Good thing we all do some wrenching...;)

I was quoted over 300 dollars for oil filter, fuel filter, cabin air filter and labour...did it all for 74.65...

Someone mentioned over 6bills to pull the intake and clean it in labour and gaskets...I believe it, its a lil bit tight back there and you are working blind.. Cleaning the intake is a time consuming.

I would recommend taking it in and having it hot tanked..

Yeah..good thing..s*** gets $$ when you pay the going rate at a shop.

I'd love to rip my heinously complex exhaust system off and put in a straight pipe, but I'm in a leave it the hell alone kinda mood these days..enough on my plate without conjuring headaches out of the clear blue sky.

And, at the moment, I'm having a celebratory glass of wine, just put the final piece of hull skin onto the boat...:D

Next is to take my air stapler out into the driveway, set it on a rock and pound it into oblivion with a sledge hammer...

Oh Margaret ,

don't you have a gold plated flashlight to go make love to? ************

Besides , gin poles are awesome. Even used mine to help build the shop...:hillbilly:

Bhaaaa:p gold plated my ass...solid gold..

So new rotors and brake pads up front..

Next thing on the list is either new struts and shockshttp://www.blauparts.com/vw/vw_struts_shocks/vw_golf_shocks_struts_suspension_kit.shtml or maybe a Malone 1.5 upgradehttp://malonetuning.com/ve-tdi or maybe new injector tips.. Tie rods are tired also, not sure if I should do the lower arm, rubber looks a little iffy.

I would like to do the egr delete but have been told its not a option with my ecu. The Malone upgrade would allow me to run the delete as they reprogram per customers request.. I would gain prolly 5 mpg.
