I just bought a new travel trailer (5500 lbs) to pull with the 03' LC I also just bought. The RV dealer wired up an electric brake controller and set up the hitch equipment and had everything ready to go for me.

When I pulled out the "VSC off" light was on and remained on for the 30 mile trip home. When I unhooked the light went off. I tried to duplicate the occurrence today by connecting the trailer connector but the "VSC off" light did not come on. Today I was parked and not actually towing the trailer.

Is there a reason that this would occur when towing? Note: only the "VSC off" light came on, not the diff lock light or any other.

Thanks

yup, looks like the feedback issue

e9999, what do you mean Feedback Issue? I have never had this issue with my 4k lbb trailer on my '04.

OK...how does one eliminate the feedback issue...i.e. trailer battery feeding back into LC...anyway to rig up a relay? and where to do it?...could the relay be on the trailer side? i have an 2003

I have the same issue and researched the problem. There is a Toyota Service Bulletin to correct the problem but some are leery that it works... most recommend isolating the trailer system by running power directly from the battery and not tying into the harness. There are a couple of threads here where some have done it...

Well I looked up the TSB on TIS. The TSB is obsolete but it listed a part number for a plug n play relay that goes in line with the body harness.

I ordered it and plugged it in and so far it seems to have taken care of my feedback issue. If it holds up it was a 1 minute fix.

The bad news is there were only two left in the US when I ordered mine 2 days ago. So I guess there is one left now.

well, I ordered the relay assy and installed it... it does keep the trailer from back feeding the car but the VSC is off when the truck is started with the trailer plugged in.

is there any reason you want the VSC when towing? I was towing a U-Haul trailer last year with mine, and on a curve on a mountain pass the VSC interfered and made all kinds of racket. there was no reason for it to do that. the vehicle was fine and tracking well through the hairpin turn, and i was going pretty slow...

With mine (also a 2003 and also have an electronic break controller), it only makes the VSC light come on if I leave the trailer plugged in with the vehicle off.

So, I plug the trailer in with the engine running and then unplug the trailer whenever I turn the engine off then replug after starting the engine again. If i don't unplug when I turn the engine off, the headlights also stay on, and the next time I start the engine the VSC will be on.

A pain in the ass way to work around the problem, but what I am doing now.

I installed a switch in line with the power to my trailer. When i stop I turn off the switch. That was last year. THis year I am going to install a relay.

I need to search and see if there is a way to do away with VSC on mine...
