He said they removed the drive shaft and the GX would not move at all. I'm sure there is a way to do that but maybe they don't know how to...
Yes, per my previous posts, remove the front DS, lock the center differential, and the GX will drive fine in RWD mode. I drove mine for a week that way. It's also easy to drop out yourself with a 14 mm socket and open end wrench.

Can you provide the instructions on how to lock the center differential? I left the car with them until they figure out a way to test the front shaft.

Based on the google search, it is saying
"Never use the center lock on high-traction surfaces like dry asphalt or concrete to prevent severe damage to the drivetrain. Use for low traction: Turn it on only when driving on loose or slippery dirt, mud, sand, deep snow, or rock crawling."
Does it mean they cannot drive it on the road and at high speed to check this issue?

The Google search is under the impression you still have the front driveshaft connected to the transfer case. What Red is proposing is generally utilized to get one of these rigs off a trail if something in the driveline breaks. In this case, if you lock the center, it forces it to send power to the differential that is still "working" so the vehicle can be moved. To lock the center differential, shift the transmission into neutral, the center lock light on the instrument cluster will blink and then go solid, shift the transmission into drive/reverse and she'll move.

It will be fine, just functioning as a RWD-only GX470, and you dan drive it at normal city/highway speeds. The front TC output shaft will spin but it can't drive the front axle as the driveshaft is missing. If you try to drive w/o the CDL engaged, it won't move though, as the shop found. So, keep the button engaged continuously and every time you start up the rig, verify that it's still engaged.

When I did this I had some fun spinning rear tires in the GX like it was a RWD sports car.

Thanks for everyone's patience with my questions and responding.

So to lock the center differential:
Step 1 - remove the front drive shaft.
Step 2 - Start the car
Step 3 - shift transmission to neutral
Step 4 - wait for blinking cluster light to become solid
Step 5 - Shift to drive and then to reverse
