Chris-

If the frame is in decent shape on the parts rig...I might be very interested.

Welcome to the 4Runner club ...did you locate the FSM (pdf) online?

I could tell by the way you were looking at mine at the Ashers it won't take much to talk you into going BIG with yours ;)

I haven't spent a lot of time looking over Ick, but did check the frame near the gas tank in front of the PS side rear wheel and it looked ok back there. I figured you might be interested in it.

It is tough to build up more than one rig - I've got a pretty neglected 40 right now. My goal is to get one running and cleaned up. We'll see where it goes from there.

Well when you need help striping it down, give me a call and I'll help out.

Is that second 4Runner you picked up also an SR5?

I'm looking at a possible trade with someone in Tulsa and it's not an SR5, but if you're parting out an SR5 I might have to hit you up for the inclinometer and the gauge cluster :D.

It also has a 3" body lift and some 35" swampers that I would get rid of, maybe we could work something out?

I really doubt this trade works out, but if it does work out how I want I'll be pretty happy.

Finally tried to start the '85 4Runner yesterday. The neighbor's dog was not amused! To my minimally knowledgeable ears, it sounds like a connecting rod is banging around in there. I started getting it ready to pull the motor last night.

22r's acquire a lot of piston slap when first started.. i guess it's wear in the piston pins.. it can chatter and sound kind of bad.. that could be a possibility.. i guess every 22r has it when they acquire miles

Update:

  • Pulled the noisy engine - #3 pushrod bearing was in the oil pan.
  • Ran compression check on donor 22RE - 171 to 179.
  • Pulled the donor engine, new seals, gaskets, resurfaced flywheel, new clutch/pressure plate
  • Swapped water pumps
  • Will stab back in this Saturday and hopefully be able to turn the key
