Valuation of a 200 vs comparably priced SUV's?

This is my opinion as well. I frankly don't care about the depreciation. I got what I wanted and what I wanted was new. It's only money.

I can certainly understand the fun of new. I feel that way about mountain bikes. I've got a pretty pricey bike, and always have bought my bikes new. Definitely nice to know exactly what it's been through without worry of unseen damage, etc.

Best of all about the LC though? -Whether new or used, LCs are so dang reliable, that they just feel good to own whether new or used.
Try that with Range Rovers.... I wouldn't touch a 5 year old RR with a 10 foot pole. But with a Cruiser? Chances are good it will perform extremely well.

The best holding value SUV on the market is in fact the G550. Now granted the cost comparison of new is pretty far off. I have gone back and forth trying to envoke logic in purchasing a G550 and the lack of real cup holders of all things are keeping me from buying it. Well that and I would be taking a $120k vehicle off-road and my kids need a vechicle to eat in on long trips, etc etc. Don't want the interior to get dusty and full of food crumbs. Lol!! The Cruiser is a tough mule to beat for an all round family wagon and it holds it value above just about anything else in the SUV segment.

G550? Not according to this. -http://blog.caranddriver.com/which-vehicles-hold-their-value-best-and-which-are-total-depreciation-disasters/- Looks like all things Toyota tend to hold their value best.

"The retro-themed FJ isn’t the only Toyota to save its owners money. By NADA’s accounting, six of the brand’s 15 offerings lead their classes in retained value. That’s better than any other brand in the country. "

That's a nice depiction of Toyota's retaining value but I didn't see any LC reference, what's up with that?

I almost have to wonder if there just is not enough data on LC trade ins? Not sure what to make of the absence of the LC on that list.

I'm not sure if this is completely accurate because neither the LC or G wagon are listed and could be because of low volume sales vehicles. However when you shop for these two beast you'll find that no other current SUV competes. Shop a 10yr old Gwagon with similar mileage of any other SUV and see which one is still demanding a higher price and lower % decrease.

I think you're probably right-it's the volume that keeps them off surveys like this one. G-wagon is pretty badass, for sure. Overpriced, but if you've got the scratch...

Land Cruiser doesn't show up in the Consumer Reports user survey results either, and I suspect it's for the same reason.

With maybe 2000 sold a year in the US... how many respondants are they going to get?

I looked at the g550 hard before I ordered my LC. I love everything about them except the maintence. They are plagued with electrical problems, sometimes from day one. When they start, it can get very expensive quickly at the dealers rate of $160/hour. I have has a couple of other Mercedes in the past but probely never again.

I just have a hard time seeing the G550 actually off-road. They seem like a trophy vehicle to me...at least any that I've seen. I don't get it. Ya, they look jeep-ish in shape...expensive in presentation...but man, they just don't look like they are ready for the trail any more than the average SUV. What's the deal with these things off-road?

Even if they ARE capable off-road... (are they?), I'll never understand wanting to head off into the boonies in any vehicle so prone to problems. What's the draw here?

They're just as capable off-road as they are mall cruising. Very good at both, minus the dumb exhaust location on the AMG models (all show, no go.)

In general, an exceptional "Look at me! Look at me!" vehicle.

2016 Mercedes-Benz G-Class: still highly capable, still hugely expensive - Autofocus.ca

It's something you really need to test drive to understand the appeal. You will either fall in love with it or hate it.

The exchaust pipes are an easy fix but they do look cool but definitely the weak sauce for sure.

I blame the popularity of the g on the kardashians. In fact around here, they are always driven by women (which I find hugely sexy btw)

UNIMOG for "real" men...
