Howdy all. Longtime FJ40 owner (28years) but less than a genius on the mechanical side. I've read a lot about checking vacuum on these beasts, but haven't seen how to connect a vacuum gauge to an engine. I have a 1974 FJ40 with an F engine. Anyone have any pointers?

On a 74, you should have a choice between the 2 nipple filter on top of the intake, just in front of the carb, the secondary vacuum port [used for vacuum retard]on the outboard side of the carb at the bottom. For testing, you can also use the brake booster hose.

BTW, If you get a different reading from the brake booster hose than from the filter, it's time to change the filter.
