Just about to get everything buttoned up under the hood on my 1985 22re rebuild but a few items are giving some confusion. If you know where these hook up and have pics, please let me know. Here they are,

I did not do the tear down and the PO did not label anything...
Also what is the sensor that screws in the top of the thermostat housing? Do I need it? Can't find it. I can cap it, but need to know what it is.
Thanks

First one is the Aux Air Valve:

Second one is a VSV:

Third one is a one way valve (like a check valve). Not sure if it's this one:

Hope that helps.

lowe, you need to get rid of the aux air valve. its cantankerous and usually is prone to failure by design.

what you need to do is go to the junkyard and get a later model 22re uppper intake and throttle body. not only is it a bolt on small performance upgrade because of improved air path, but the aux air valve is built into throttle body (bi metallic type) instead of wax type and is much more reliable....

the second one is a vsv... they were used for several things on the 22re..one being the idle up control on your ac circuit... i think some power steering systems used it as well. not sure...

the last thing is not a check valve. its a filter it goes on the dash pot for the throttle body. basically there is a little diaphragm on there to stop the throttle body from slamming shut when you get off the throttle really quick. the filter just protects the dash pot... if you get the upgraded later model intake, then i think its built in and deleted also.

Good info! I probably won't worry about it on mine unless it dies tho. I very rarely drive my truck since it's just a toy. :steer:

Thanks for the info guys, really helps a lot. Still not sure where the check valve goes though. The dash pot from the throttle body is missing.

the only check valve i know of goes in line in egr system.... cant remember which line though,

edit.... lowe you can get away without the aux air valve at all if you plug everything up...but you might have trouble starting it sometimes when cold, or rough idling until it warms up....
i wouldn't recommend it, but....

Meh. It's on there and seems to be working fine. Like I said, I very rarely drive the truck so I'm just going to leave it as is for now.

That is called the "FPU Temp Switch", it controls the Fuel Pressure Up VSV. IMO, you need it.

do you have a part# for this? i can't find it shown on any parts diagram i have found online. i went to NAPA but they sold me something that does not fit.

Also, there are 2 VSV's, one has a knob on it and one does not. the one with a know looks like it is the one from Lowe's diagram above. the one without a knob, where does it go?

Try to find an under hood sticker for your model/state/edition of your Toyota (why so many subtle differences Toyota?).

I recently went through and reinstalled the entire vacuum/smog assembly for a California vehicle. It would have never happened without the emissions sticker. The other diagrams I found didn't match.
