Hey Guys-

I've searched and found either fuel injected swaps, or older dated tech. I couldnt find anything that was close to to what I'm looking for.

I bought a 1988 4Runner, 3slo, auto 4x4. It's in great shape except for the rod hanging out the side of the block. So I've been weighing my options for motor replacement options.

3.4's are cool but pricey and pretty technical swap. Swapping to anything fuel injection has more wiring than I want to do, and the toyota auto and t-case blows.

So for what I want this rig to do, camping, easy wheeling, some DD and work truck use, etc. I'm going with RUF and Chevies and 35's.

So I think a carburated SBC v8 swap with an auto and toyota case would be ideal for what I want to do. So what kind of advice and suggestions do you guys have. I hope I dont get flamed, I've searched and couldnt find any build-ups that are close to what I'm looking for.

So what can you guys tell me I dont know. Best motor mounts? Radiators? Cooling issues? etc?

I would talk to Jim Sickles at Downey and Advance Adapters. They both offer the parts and experience to do what you want as well as have a book you can buy. Having done several SBC swaps to FJ40's, I considered doing this some time ago to a 87 mini I owned but decided it was considerably more difficult due to space issues as well as requiring a 4" lift to clear the expensive aftermarket Chebby oil pan required. Remember, getting it mounted is the easy part. Hooking it all up and working the bugs out is where the real fun begins.

I forgot to mention I'm going to SAS the truck at the same time as the swap, oil pan clearance shouldnt be as much of an issue as with the IFS.
