now that I've gotten rid of my landline, I will rely mostly on my cell for incoming calls. One problem with that is if you leave the cell phone in one room and you can't hear the ring far away in the house. Those ringtones are just not that loud. Did a bit of research and found some nifty gizmos I wasn't yet familiar with that allow you to connect the cell to all your cordless and hardwired phones throughout the house. Via bluetooth. Not only does it ring loud everywhere you have another phone in the house, but you can also take the cell call and call out from your old cordless phones. Nice.

Seems to be 2 popular ones with good reviews: Extreme Techonologies Xlink BT and Cobra Phonelynx (or something like that). Pretty inexpensive too. $35-50 IIRC. They even have a model that works with a functional landline service too I think.

(But do tell if you know of a good simple loud bluetooth ringer as well, please.)

This sounds like a solution looking for a problem to me. Stick your cell in your pocket.

don't want to do that all the time. A pain. For one thing my phone is huge. And it's kind of hard to charge it in my pocket while moving around.

This is awesome! I need one badly for having a phone in the garage, I rather use a cheap cordless or a speakerphone in my garage while I am out there working than have to use my expensive touch-screen cell phone with dirty and greasy hands. Not to mention how metal particles get in the speaker and screw it up. I have to keep my cell phone in a baggie in the garage to keep crap off of it, makes it hard to answer calls/texts when they come in.

Thanks, now I know what to ask for for my birthday!

I should clarify that I have not used one of those gizmos myself, so no first hand experience of their reliability etc. And there may be better ones available now.

As an aside, I also see at Costco that cordless phones are now readily (if not so cheaply) available with cell phone connectability as well, but of course if you already have the cordless phones etc, that may not be the most economical way to go.
