Nice job. Soldering is very easy. Look at some YouTube videos to get an idea. Remember, there can't be continuity between the center coax and the outer shield.
Now that I'm back on my computer and not typing on a phone, I'll suggest more details:
- you have choices of two types of PL259 connectors: solderless or solder. Buy both and play with them. Solderless may work for you and less complicated. If you have extra cable, cut a piece of it off and take it with you to the store. Usually, the coax should state what kind of cable it is on the side. This info will help you when you're buying connectors.
- if solder type, as said already, pre tin the coax
- get a spool of solder. I use super thin diameter solder. This makes it easy to shove it into tight places before melting.
- use a small vise and put the PL259 connector in it. Connector can be bought from radio shack.
- connector needs to face up in the vise. You'll be shoving the conductor through the bottom.
- Yes, you'll need a vise unless you have a third hand.
- I like how much you've stripped the end, but cut all this off and start over while following the direction on how much coax to strip on the package. Work the braid like they show on the PL259 package. The braid strands should go around the outer part of the conductor like a dress. The braid can NOT touch the center conductor.
- cut off the foil shield.
- Make sure that every SINGLE braid strand has been accounted for!
- ok, now take a real close look and make sure no strands are touching the center conductor!!!
- shove the whole thing through the connector until you bottom out. You may have to twist while inserting. You'll have a little bit of extra coax center conductor poking through.
- heat up the center part of the connector with the soldering iron. When it's hot enough, the solder should melt and fill up inside space where the coax center conductor is poking through.
- when the center part is filled with solder, you're done. Try not to overflow and come out and over the top of the center part of the connector. Keep everything inside.
- snip off the excess coax center conductor.
- snip off the excess braid strands if needed or just leave it alone.
Let me know if I confused you!
