I would say that ARB units are straight much more often than not. Still, they need to be checked, just like any diff. Also backlash must be checked, also pinion preload, pinion depth, etc. They are all important.


Agreed. I just was not aware the typical diff shop chucks the ARB carrier in a lathe and checks its flatness and/or run-out. If they do then I can see why you think this point is redundant.
 
Whether chucked in a lathe, or checked in the diff does not matter, it still needs to be checked. I guess it is a matter of opinion which way is better or not. I will say it is not often that there is a problem though.

I can't take the credit for the photos or documentation...ZUK is a great guy and likes to do this stuff. He gets a lot of people from all over the US sending him diffs. I even saw one in his shop from Hawaii!!!
