howde all....
just replace all 4 u joints / spiders - another self repair done - thanks to ih8mud.
not sure i coudln't of just zerked off on the bearings - but anyways such is the mud credo...
how to replace the u-joints in your 80
rear axle service photos
all in all i call it a job - requiring no special tools at all - 14 mm socket / wrench, screwdriver
large ball peen, etc....definitely doable by anyone.
other than the obvious to mark the shafts / yokes - note the zerk postions....
the races / caps - should re-seat fairly easy to the point where they are near flush with the yoke and to the point where the c-clips seat. if the races are "fighting" you at all - tis likely the needles have fallen out of place...
moral of the story - grease up the inside of the races / caps very well - this way if you are indeed doing the "ball peen" technique - you shouldnt have any problem with the race & the 1000 needles seating properly - again will require some force - but the should slide on like buddah...
oh an lastly - if the ujoints are tight once re-installed - again the mud tip of tapping the side of the
yokes with a hammer - indeed makes the smooth and free....
thanks again all...now on to the next replacement (whether i need it or not)
