On diesel engines a turbo increases efficiency which improves economy if you drive in exactly the same way you did before.
But if you use the extra power often, you will burn more fuel.

On petrol engines a turbo increases fuel consumption.

The issue is ... when you have a turbo usually you enjoy the " turbo kick " and enjoying more and more .. means always more diesel .. In my case .. means more diesel and boost it more .. and more diesel .. and so on .. :D

Of course fun always costs money and a turbo is a great way to get it.

If you wish to exercise self-control, it'll save some fuel.

I'm practice pretty much .. ( my wallet it's a great reminder and my wife help in the process ) one of the reasons for not try a intercooler .. ( in the 1HD-T that still my DD )
