Just got home from the trail run today, and what a great run it was. Chuck, Eric, Mike, Mike's two sons, and I met up at the Western station this morning, and after a little discussion-- decided it was worth the trip to see if we could get up Twin Cone. The backup plan was to come down Tarryall and hit China Wall.
We headed out toward Deckers and up to 285 to get to Twin Cone. We stopped for gas and realized none of us really knew where the trailhead was, so we hit up the map section of the store where Chuck figured out kinda sorta where the trail should be. We made it to the Trailhead somewhere around 10ish... there was snow covering the parking lot, but it wasn't anything to keep from going any further. After locking in and airing down we headed into the wilderness.
The trail was pretty tame for a while, everything was covered in snow and not too many vehicles had been through, making everything look almost new. The pictures of this trail on Traildamage looked to have been taken after spring meltoff, so I was expecting the whole place was going to be a mudhole, I was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the forest was.
Halfway through the trail, the rocks started coming. It was a little challenging in spots navigating the icy, snow covered rocks...It definitely made the obstacles interesting. There was one messy uphill run, which everyone made without too much drama. Somewhere not too far after that we encountered some hard crusted snow drifts that put a halt to forward progress. Out came the two straps and jokes...I might have gotten the worst of it being I got stuck twice somehow. That snow was tricky! We only had to break through a couple of those before the top of the trail was within sight. Everyone in the group made it to the top where we decided to have lunch...In our vehicles.

It was like the Himalayas up there, the wind was brutal, and the the snow was coming in sideways. Visability was almost non-existant, but it was still pretty great up at the top.
After deciding we spent enough time chatting on the CB's from the comfort of warm vehicles, we headed back down the trail without incident, and headed through Tarryall to get back to civilization.
Long story, but don't you wish you had come along?

Maybe next time.
Oh yeah, and I told you we could get up Twin Cone in November!!! naysayers!
