I am not sure how nature triggers the exit call but when they started coming out of the hole, they were coming out at a rate of one every 2-3 seconds. They lingered around the hole for another few seconds than started heading for the water which was approximately 50 yards away.
Sorry ..... The one on the pool deck is as good as I got. At first I thought the were
"Soft Shell" but upon further inspection the had "reddish-orange" striping on the head and legs.
I watched them for about one hour and I believe the majority made it to the water where they had to deal with small gators and hungry bass.
