Hey, I've see a couple fo guys here with 3B's. Lots of talk to turbo's so I found this thread, and from post #10 he builds a manifold. I thought it was very well done, so take a look. I know some of you guys have equal skills to this.

I've gotta say, I think that is the most epic 60 build I've ever looked at. That guy is a talented fabricator, and has put the best of everything on that truck. Just incredible.

Ya I've definitely come across this thread before, really meticulous.
Not sure about the manifold, nice design...kind of bulky. I know there's a ton of room in a bj60 but that wouldn't leave much to work around
You would on the other hand get excellent flow

I only have to comment, even with all that is good of a 3B. A turbo/supercharge system creates a lot of
stress on a motor that I wonder about heat/precup failure, etc. I didn't see or remember
what year this engine is.
He has a thread on MUD too. Seems like something has happened, he moved to Gr Forks, but has not been
doing anything for a few months now. Can only wait and see.

I think in comparison to the abuse a stock 3b takes from heavy right feet to make up for the lack of power, and the general lack of interest in EGT's one finds amongst the owners, adding a turbo is only a benefit.

Within reason of course. Some people go full retard once they get a turbo.

Yeah, true. I know of a sorely abused 3B that with head work etc, ran 22 lbs of boost. It did eventually succumb to abuse, but it was
an awful lot of abuse.

I hope once I have a turbo you will all let me know if I get to this stage...

I have plans for my manifold that very much resemble Cam's. seemed like a nice simple design well executed, and leaves plenty of room to run piping

Yes, I think that would fall into the "full retard" category...

I've turboed a couple 3b's...(maybe 3? ) they were all smoother and ran cooler afterwards. I couldn't even get the egt's above 1200 driving normally. On a NA 3b, you sometimes wonder if they'll ever go BELOW 1200....

Don't you worry...:flipoff2:

Baxter now runs, or more accurately has built a supercharger system for his 3B. I don't think it runs yet. Whatever the case it'll be awesome like everything else he does.

His manifold is very nice and will flow better than any one I have built, that being said I think flow on a 3B is a tad overrated. I feel the manifold is more of a pressure vessel to spool the turbo and once its all up to speed its about time to shift. Flow seems to be more important on gas motors that spin many more RPM's than a 3B will ever see. I'm just saying that many home brew mix match 3B turbo's seem to pull just a well as thousand dollar engineered kits. It ain't a formula 1 game round these parts! :hillbilly:

Yep. That's what I mean.

I was thinking tho, the two times I've done the turbo 3b thing, the first was was ultra ghetto. Flip manifold over, attach turbo I got for a cheeseburger with an adapter plate, turn up fuel, boom done. Drove great for several years, until I sold the truck and the new owner turned the fuel up all the way ( after which it lasted another 2 before needing a head)

Second, was a fancy AXT kit. Looked a lot nicer in the engine compartment, but I don't know that it performed even as well as the ghetto version, and this was on a considerably fresher 3b with a new head etc, and not the 500k motor the cheeseburger turbo went onto.

So yeah, what Cam said. It'll be a simple "log" style for me next time around. Least amount of f'ing around for pretty much the same results.
